I was illegally evicted after 11 days of being incarcerated all my property removed without consent. Other residents were residing at residence as of November 14/2022 also I was not legally ******************************* and had a legal name change 2017 ! Identity theft and fraud to bill me the prior resident after moving in new tenant !

Chugach Electric Association does not know why ***************************** has a complaint against us.  I have looked for that name in our computer system and no one by that name comes up.  I also searched by ******************************* and also have no records for anyone by this name. I reviewed the record for the address of 9221 Kavik and do not show anyone by either of these names associated with this address.  Finally, I looked at the attached image and see it is an invoice for a company called Storage Star Anchorage North.  Chugach has no idea what this complaint is about, nor why.  Respectfully, please submit any other information you may have that would show an account for ********************** service or other records that would show an association with Chugach Electric.  Otherwise, I do not find anyone by this name in our computer system.

    Sincerely,

    ***********************

With the additional documentation provided by the complainant, Chugach was able to locate the old billing record for ******************************* from the service location of *********************************************************************************  ******************************* AKA ***************************** billed at this service location for electric service from June 6, 2022 through January 25, 2023.  The request to establish billing at this location was made by ******************************* via phone on June 6, 2022.

The account for ********************** service remained in ******* ***** Smiths name through January 25, 2023 when it was closed due to non-payment of the account.  In the interim, Chugach did speak to ******************************* on more than one occasion during which she chose to not close her account, even though she told the Chugach representative she was not living there.  ******************************* did not notify Chugach of her legal name change, nor provide documentation of her 2017 name change until April 17, 2024. (Chugach account notes are attached.)

These account notes are only to be used by BBB personnel for the purpose of complaint resolution, and should NOT be publicly posted in the BBB portal. They can be shared back to ***************************** (formerly *******************************).

Chugachs position is that ******************************* AKA *************************** remains financially responsible for this electric service billing, as she ultimately did not make the request to Chugach Electric Association, **** to close her electric account, regardless of occupancy or name on the account.

    Sincerely,

    ***********************

Chugach Electric is making my daughter pay someone else past bill from their previous place. My daughter is not married or even in a relationship with this man. The man took my daughters phone and tried to talk to the customer service person and he got mad at the customer service person and used bad language towards this customer service person, so the customer service person took matters in their own way and told my daughter that she has to pay the guys past bill. Is this illegal to do on Chugach Electric parts?

    Business response

    05/16/2024

I reviewed Chugach Electric's customer information system and do not find any record for a person by the name of ***********************.  I called the phone number listed in the complaint and left a voicemail for a callback.  Until Chugach has more information about her daughter's name and the service location in question, Chugach cannot respond to the specifics of this complaint.  In general, Chugach's electric service tariff does provide for the collection of debts owed in certain situations where there is a relationship demonstrated.  Again, I would need more specific information to respond to this complaint.

I believe the neighbors in this building have been stealing electricity from me and past tenants. I called them and they said they don't have responsibility to the wiring outside of the meter. My electric bill has been ******* a month since I moved here.

    Business response

    05/15/2023

On May 3, 2023, Chugach Electric sent a Meter Technician to the service location of the complainant, ******************************************* to investigate the alleged power theft.  Chugach's Meter Technician inspected Chugach facilities, which extends from the electric power service to the metering point.  Findings are as follows: This location has periodic high loads, as measured by a time load/measured load comparison.  No problem was found.  This time load/measured load comparison was done over the course of four visits to the meter point within a 48-hour period.  In addition, the Chugach Meter Technician conducted a visual inspection of the electric service to the metering point and no theft was found on Chugach facilities.  It is possible that on the member side of the electric facilities that power theft could occur, but as this is found on the member's side of the electric service, the member would need to consult with an electrician to verify that no power theft is taking place.

************************* has an active account for electric service with Chugach Electric.  She has not been denied service by Chugach.  Based on account notes from December 21, 2022, it appears ************** has an ongoing dispute with her landlord over the service location of ************************************ in *********, ******.  ************** does have a past due and current billing with Chugach and the balance is $620.72.  The account is now considered delinquent and Chugach is following the state and tariffed guidelines for notification in situations where there is an overdue billing.  Chugach most recently spoke by phone with ************** regarding her electric account on December 29, 2022.  During this call, the Chugach representative reviewed the account status with her, and advised the Chugach does not get involved in disputes between landlords and tenants.  She was also asked if she wanted to close her electric account, as she stated to Chugach her landlord has locked her out of the location.  ************** replied that no, she wanted to keep her electric account in her name and active for now. ************** did state that she believes this account was put into her name fraudulently.  However, Chugach shows conversations and interactions with her directly regarding this electric account on 6/6/2022, 8/10/2022, 8/24/2022, and 12/29/2022.

    Business response

On Friday, January 20, 2023, I spoke to ************************* over the phone.  She confirmed that she does have a dispute with her landlord at her service location (*************************). She states her landlord has locked her out, has put her belongings in storage and that she has no access to the property.  I reviewed the accumulated balance on the account, as well as the account status with her.  Additionally, since she does not currently reside at the service location, I asked her if she wanted to disconnect the electric service from her name so that it does not continue to build up.  At this point, she tells that her new legal name is ***************************** and that we would not schedule the disconnect for her when she called using the new name.  I explained to her that our records show her name to be *************************, but if she can show us the legal documents that support her name change to *****************************, we would update her account and schedule her disconnect order for her.  We closed the call with *******/******* saying she would go to the courthouse on Monday, January 23, 2023 to get a copy of the legal documents and bring them in to Chugach member service lobby to close her electric service account and show proof of ID.

Our power was shut off due to lack of payment. Okay that is our fault, let's pay and get it turned back on.We call and they are saying we owe an extra $130 out of nowhere, and after 2 hours we finally get them to tell us where it is coming from. The charge is a debt from an address my wife lived at 15 years ago, and was not listed as an applicant on the application forum. We had never heard about this bill, even though she had started service at 3 different addresses afterwards. They have now transferred the bill to our current account, even though it's entirely different than the old account and are refusing to remove it
