BBB has received information Grant Strategies solicits by phone, informing consumers of grant eligibility for an upfront fee. However the government does not require payment, of any kind, to receive federal grants.
On December 7, 2016, BBB offered Grant Strategies the opportunity to preserve self-regulation in the marketplace by clarifying their business practices. The business did not supply this information.
According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services as well as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), it is illegal for a company to ask you to pay to apply for or to increase your odds of being awarded a federal grant. Federal grants are awards of financial assistance to an individual and/or organization. Grants are used to carry out a government authorized purpose, and are not provided as personal benefits from the government or assistance. Grants are typically awarded to universities, researchers, law enforcement, cities, states, counties and non-profit organizations.
Also according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, the only official access point for all federal grant-making agencies is grants.gov. For more information regarding government grants, please call 1-800-518-4726 or visit www.grants.gov. For more information regarding grant scams please visit the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services on 1-877-696-6775 or visit www.hhs.gov. Also if you think you've been a victim of a grant scam, feel free to file a complaint with the FTC at www.ftc.gov/complaint. You also can report it to your state Attorney General.
