Absolute nightmare!!! We contracted Axis for an appraisal on our Brooklyn property. They assigned ** a *********************. Needless to say, Mr. **** was completely inept at his job. He rushed through the site visit, refusing to thoroughly examine the property. He just took one look at me, a young black man, and decided that my property couldnt possibly be worth as much as I was expecting it to be. He even had to make a second visit because he forgot to take pictures and measurements the first time. Then after almost 2 weeks of ignoring my calls, texts and emails, he finally sends his appraisal report - which didnt even have the right square footage! Whats worse is that this lowball appraisal messed up a refinancing deal with our lender. Weve had several appraisals done over the years and most have been thorough and fair. My advice if youre not white or Jewish, STAY AWAY from this appraisal company. They will purposely undervalue your property and cause you lots of headache.

AXIS is compliant with Federal Regulations including Interim Final Rule 226.42(c)(3), Appraiser Independence Regulations (AIR) as outlined by both ****** *** and ******* Mac as well as all other federal and state laws, rules, and regulations. AXIS role is to facilitate the appraisal process by engaging experienced and screened appraisers that have undergone a rigorous background check. AXIS supplied a very experienced and local appraiser to provide an independent professional opinion of value for the customers lender. It appears from the complaint, that the borrower was unhappy with the appraisers opinion of value. To comply with laws as well as give the customer a chance to share information, AXIS utilizes an appeals process that allows the client or borrower to ask questions and have the appraiser analyze additional relevant information, which upon consideration may impact his/her original opinion of value. This appeals process was never initiated, and the borrower did not communicate any dissatisfaction regarding the appraiser or the results of the appraisal. Since the customer failed to participate in the complaint or appeals process, and the appraiser who completed the report is highly experienced in the applicable market, the complaint received is unfounded and should be dismissed. It should be noted that AXIS is never aware or informed of a borrowers race or ethnicity nor were we in this case, furthermore, the complaint does not provide any facts to support the allegations. Upon receiving the complaint to the Better Business Bureau, we/AXIS reached out to the lender, who was clear that no such communication or complaint of any type was ever lodged with them either.
