Food Bank of the Rockies ignites the power of community to nourish people facing hunger.
Programs
Food Bank of the Rockies (FBR) distributes food and meals through partner relief agencies and direct service programs in the Rocky Mountain Region.Through its Fighting Hunger Feeding Hope program, FBR’s member agencies provide food and essentials to hunger relief agencies of many sizes, ranging from small faith-based food pantries to large charities serving hundreds of clients daily. Member agencies contribute a small Agency Support Fee to cover transportation and warehouse expenses but do not purchase donated products. In 2020, over 840 hunger relief partners and more than 80 mobile food pantry sites, spanning 53 Colorado counties and the entire state of Wyoming were supported through the hunger relief programs of Food Bank of the Rockies.Food Bank of the Rockies’ Nutrition Network offers several programs to provide nourishment to hungry children in the community. Kids Cafe is a meal program designed for children at risk of hunger. Free hot and shelf stable meals are prepared in the organization’s community kitchen and provided after school and during the summer. Totes of Hope provides children with food to sustain them over the weekend when school is not in session. Children take home totes filled with food items, which is the main food source on Saturday and Sunday for many of the children.Through its Food Rescue Program, FBR sends refrigerated trucks to retail establishments, including grocers, restaurants, and caterers, each weekday to collect unserved excess products, which has been frozen, refrigerated, or safely stored. Standards are maintained with professional food handling when freezing and picking up donations. FBR transports products to its warehouse and hunger-relief programs serving meals.FBR’s Mobile Pantry Program brings food directly to communities where more food assistance is needed. Distribution locations are determined by community assessments and county poverty numbers.Trucks deliver food to these communities and are met by volunteers who help distribute the food to families in need. Pantries are serving clients at various locations Monday - Saturday each week.
