Date of Transaction: August 16, 2024 Amount Paid: $2,900 Description of Complaint: On August 16, 2024, I was persuaded to purchase services from "It's Just Lunch" following a high-pressure sales call where they explicitly used urgency tactics, stating, "If you don't pay for the service today, the price will go up to $3,600 dollars tomorrow if you don't decide today." This approach felt manipulative and was a significant factor in my decision to purchase their services without adequate time to consider. Service Promised: - Scheduled Lunches and Dates: The company promised to facilitate scheduled lunches and dates with potential matches. They mentioned a timeline where this could happen anywhere from a few months to a few years. Issues Encountered: - **False Advertising**: Contrary to what was promised, there has been no substantial pool of dates available for scheduling lunches. A review of online feedback for "It's Just Lunch" reveals widespread dissatisfaction, with many customers describing the service as a scam. - Non-Delivery: Since my payment, the company has failed to deliver on their commitment. No lunch dates have been scheduled, and the first and only attempt at matching was substandard and did not align with the detailed preferences I had provided. - Customer Service Failure: The business has not taken effective steps to resolve this issue. Their response has been limited to vague statements of being "working on it," without any concrete action or timeline. There's a clear refusal to acknowledge the problem or work towards a resolution. Desired Resolution: - Full Refund: Given the non-delivery of promised services and the misleading advertising, I am seeking a full refund of $2,900. It's Just Lunch regrets to learn the consumer has not enjoyed his experience thus far as this is not the norm with IJL. We disagree with the statements the consumer has made regarding his membership and our process. The consumer joined IJL after being offered membership on his own accord. IJL offers the services as outlined the membership agreement which the consumer reviewed, executed and accepted at the time he became a client. We have provided the services to the consumer as such. The first date IJL presented to the consumer, he declined to meet. This is considered a date, anyone that IJL presents to the consumer is a date, they have the option under the term of the agreement to say yes or no. He is the only reason he has not been on an in person lunch date thus far. We have taken his feedback and are applying it to the recruitment process, which is what professional matchmaking services do. Initial transaction was on April 29, 2024. In short, the company offers a matchmaking service. The offer is for personalized and dedicated service using many criteria to find appropriate matches. The initial agreement states that the consumer has 3 days to cancel. This is not enough time to figure out that the service is a scam. Here are the issues -- - No actual work on matchmaking -- just a random picture of someone with almost no information about them. - Calls are frequently not returned or returned very late. The customer service line does not allow you to reach a live person; after leaving two voicemails, there was no call back -- at all. - Calls and emails to 2 supervisors were ignored and not responded to. Emails to one representative were responded to with blatant lies, over and over again. (Can provide evidence.) - Per company's policy, sent a certified letter asking to cancel the service and asking for a refund. There is a confirmation that the letter was delivered on September 4th, 2024. No acknowledgment at all and a routine call on September 10th, offering a new date, which is also just a picture with no additional information. - Given the lack of responsiveness and the blatant lying over and over again, I do not feel safe using this service. And, if I can't use the service, I don't want to pay $4,147.65 for nothing.Business response

The consumer was contacted on September 30th by our director of matchmaking, who resolved her concerns. October 4,5,8,9 and 10 her matchmaker contacted her about her next date, ******, which she did not respond to and was placed on hold per the term of the membership agreement. The letter below was sent to her. We urge her to contact IJL when she is ready for dating. IJL has and can continue to provide the services as outlined in the membership agreement, we have stated our position and the consumer is not eligible for a refund. Thank you.

My concerns were certainly not resolved and nothing has been resolved as yet. I simply want the ability to cancel my membership with IJL because I have no trust at all and do not feel safe being serviced by a company that has unreliable customer service and representatives who give misleading information.My concerns were not resolved the last time I spoke with a representative and I never received an explanation about the lack of responses to all of my calls prior to me escalating the issue. Site says reputable dates for 12 months and guarantee satisfaction:
1. They are unresponsive to complaints
2. Missing committments to monthly dates
3. Ignore qualifications that were filled out by the survey
4. Paid several thousand I requested a refund and asked to cancel and they ignore emails.
5. requesting at least 3/4 refund for misrepresentation/

IJL regrets to learn the consumer has not enjoyed her experience as this is not the norm with IJL. The consumer joined IJL 2/28/24 and as a membership for 12 months, 12 dates, which provides 1 date per month. Her membership has been provided 8 dates and we are only on the 5th month of her membership. 1 date she accepted and attended, all of the other 7 dates, she declined to meet. We encourage the consumer to revisit these declines as the only way to determine if she is going to have chemistry with someone is to sit down across the table from them, not from digital pixels on a page. Additionally, she accepted other dates, however, they declined the opportunity to meet her, just as she declined 7 of the men provided to her. IJL is providing the services as outlined in the membership agreement, at no time did we provide false advertising to the consumer. She is not eligible for a refund as IJL has and can continue to service the membership agreement the consumer executed at the time she was offered membership. False advertising, they said they would:
1. Provide matches within my age range :they sent me men signifcantly older in their 70s:
2.The website we aim to please and listen to our customers: they never listens to my desire for men my age, my state instead they pushed men out of state and older.
3. The recruiter said they had men in the *** ****** area now they cant find anyone so I need to travel an hour to *** that was false adverting
4. They promised a quality date a month: one month last month there was none, and another month they said he was a business profile who was in shape. He was morbidly obese and not professional at all and was rude
5. I have expressed my concerns multiple time and they ignore 90% of their emails. I have left messages as well.

The client is 65 and agreed to date from 55 -7 3 when she was accepted as a client. Her agreement also states IJL has the right to present matches outside of the criteria provided, and if the consumer declines it will not count as one of her guaranteed dates. All of the dates, at the time they were presented to the consumer, were within the age criteria she agreed to. She is in the ********** area and her dating markets are listed as *********** **** *** *** *** **** ****, which she agreed to upon acceptance as a client, and also outlined in her membership agreement where dating takes place. The guarantee of dates is outlined in the agreement she signed. She has 12 months, 12 dates, whichever comes last and has already been provided with 8 dates in total, which is 2 dates ahead of schedule. The consumer cannot state she doesn’t like the program or the process as she declines all of the dates IJL provides to her. We have not mistreated the consumer, we have not provided false advertising, IJL has always acted in good faith and provided the services as outlined in the membership agreement. She is not eligible for a refund simply because she doesn’t like it. We will continue the search and select process for her next date and contact her once available.Customer response

I signed up with It's Just Lunch on October 5, 2023. The package cost $3,400.00 and includes 12 months or 12 dates. When I initially signed up, I received a few matches from my matchmaker but the women supposedly declined to go on a date with me. After almost two months of not receiving any dates, I filed a charge back with my credit card. During that time, the matchmaker sent me a match who was not dressed appropriately and I believe the pictures look very suspicious. When It's Just Lunch found out that I filed a charge back, they canceled the date. Unfortunately, my credit card provider sided with It's Just Lunch and declined to give me a refund. After that, I was assigned a different matchmaker. She set me up on a date that was scheduled to take place on March 10, 2024. I drove 30 miles each way to the restaurant and waited an hour only for the lady not to show up. It is extremely degrading to be stood up on a date and no one should ever have to go through that situation. I ultimately declined a second date with her because I do not know if it is a legitimate person and I am not willing to invest any more time. I have since not heard anything from my matchmaker. I am not interested in doing business anymore with this company and am demanding a full refund of $3,400.00. I drove 30 miles each way to the restaurant and waited an hour at the restaurant. The date never showed up. It is a degrading experience and I was depressed for a week afterwords. I do not know if this person is legitimate or if your company screens your matches. I am not willing to put myself in this situation again. I gave your company ample opportunity to set me up on a date and after seven months of being a member, I have not gone on a single date where the person showed up. I am no longer interested in doing business with your company and am demanding a full refund. If I do not receive a refund, I will seek legal action.

I signed up for It’s Just Lunch awhile ago and at the end of my contact time, I hadn’t found anyone, which I know they can’t guarantee, but I felt that they hadn’t done a very good job matching me with compatible matches. Then a little while later someone from the company reached out to me to rejoin. I was reluctant but ended up being convinced to try again. I paid $2000 and that included a year of hold time. I ended up needing to put my account on hold for personal reasons before getting any new matches. Well, I just reached out to start my account up again but was informed that my hold time had ended so my account was cancelled and I wouldn’t get a single match for my $2000. And of course they pointed to the fine print to excuse my complaint. First of all, it hasn’t been a full year so I don’t know how they say my hold time has expired. Secondly, I thought that meant my hold would expire and my account would be active again. Thirdly, I broke my arm in February and had that to deal with and couldn’t worry about my It’s Just Lunch account, especially consid****g I didn’t understand they would just take my money without giving me anything. The person I talked to said she couldn’t do anything, that that was their policy. She said she would reach out to someone higher up but I’m not real hopeful of hearing back from anyone.Business response

On 2/15/2024, I contacted It's Just Lunch to become a paid member in hopes of meeting another person that would pay a significant amount of money to find a serious relationship and not a free website. This company/service is a scam. They offer a service that should be straight forward. You pay an astronomical membership fee $3,200 and are promised to be matched with another paid member who is as serious as you. I started the service on 2/15/2024 and today is 2/26/2024. I was told I had a date on 2/25/2024. On 2/17/2024 I got a voicemail saying that my date had to cancel for my date TOMORROW which was 2/18/2024. I was confused as I was told via email that I had a date on 2/26/2024. I called my match maker several times on Monday the 19th no return call until 2/23 asking me if I was confirmed for my date on 2/25/2024. When I asked her why I had a voicemail stating that I had a cancelled date on 2/18, she said are you sure you aren't confusing the dates? So I sent her the voice mail through email and the trail of emails confirming the original dates. I live in ** and they said they had members that were with in 5-10 miles...that was a lie. They set me up with a date that was well over 1 hour each way. I went on the date and when I got there and asked him how the service was going he stated he WASN'T a paid member. He was recruited through email from a free service that he uses on a dating app. I was lied to and was now sitting with someone that got to use a service for free when I paid a significant amount of money.. I have called IJL and here is the email I just received after I asked for a refund and were told no, I called my credit card company and disputed the charge. They deceived me and didn't hold up there part of the contract. Here is what they said: Hello, As of today, we will be placing your membership on hold. We received the credit card dispute you filed with your Credit Card. When you file your dispute and if you win your dispute, your financial institution will apply your funds directly to your account. IJL will not be in possession of those funds. If you win your dispute, your financial institution, not IJL, will be in possession of those funds. IJL will not be responsible for any unapplied or misapplied funds by your financial institution. You must contact your financial institution directly with any questions. We strive to always provide the highest level of customer service possible and look forward to the opportunity to work with you once resolved. In the interim, we will be placing your membership on hold until you are ready to date. Remember, this hold period will count against the hold terms remaining in your membership. If your membership is on hold for longer than what is available, it will expire. You currently have 180 days of hold time remaining. Please contact your Matchmaker when you would like to return to active status. If we do not hear from you, your account will remain on hold subject to the expiration terms set forth above and in your membership agreement. Thank you, IJL They will place your account on hold if you meet someone and want to hold while you date them. Now they are punishing me. We adamantly disagree with the statement you have made in your complaint as we are not a scam and have successfully been in business for 32+ years helping millions of single people enjoy fun first dates. You were aware of the fee, accepted the membership as it was offered to you as well as agreed to the terms of the membership agreement. Your executed membership agreement indicates you read, understood and agreed to the terms therein. You had as much time as necessary to ask any questions you may have had to clarify how the membership works or services to be provided. The membership agreement specifically states “
Client will receive dates ("Dates") with other It's Just Lunch Clients and with non-It's Just Lunch clients procured for Client outside of the It's Just Lunch Client database ("Participants")” And at no time were you told you would receive dates with anything other that what is stated in the agreement. Your membership is on hold due to the dispute you filed with your financial institution. At the time the dispute was initiated, your funds are no longer in IJL’s possession and we will pause the process of servicing the membership, as we noted to you in the hold letter sent. **** *******I have a voice mail that, my Date was canceled and when I confronted Amber about it she asked if I had proof which I do. I have a voice mail that stated the date was cancelling for the next day. In fact our date was the next week. Then Amber called and asked if I was confirmed for the original date. When I meet the PERSON, he admitted he was not a paid member, he said he worked as a waste management technician. Far from the It’s just lunch description of he owns a business. He also went on to tell me he wasn’t a paid member, rather was recruited a few days before the date. That is called a SCAM.

IJL has mislead its services. It claims it has paying membership clients that are as invested as you in paying a significant membership in order to have a more quality experience in finding a quality partner. However, when I was sent on a date with a supposedly paying membership, he openly admitted he in fact wasn't a paid membership but rather was recruited via email.
I contacted IJL to explain that they mislead me and lied about the service, instead of trying to resolve the issue they ignored me.
I was with the company one week and therefore respectively ask that I be reimbursed for the lack of transperency.

We recruit/procure matches for our clients, which is specifically spelled out in the agreement and the consumer had a much time as necessary to review, and ask questions if the was concerned about her agreement. It’s just lunch is a complete waste of money. They did not deliver what they promised at all. They promise they have a large pool of high quality professional men. Here’s my experience- Date 1- total waste of my time. This guy was very socially awkward and it was the most uncomfortable I’ve ever been on a date. We had nothing in common. He mentioned that he’d love to have children- and I’ve had my tubes tied an a hysterectomy. I should have never been set up with him. When I asked him about his experience with IJL, he said he joined 20 years ago for 2 year and paid $1000. It didn’t work out for him, but they still call him 10 years later to go on some dates. 2nd date- He was a nice guy but was definitely too old for me and we had nothing in common. He told me that a year or so ago- he reached out to IJL to get info, but never joined- but they still call him to go on dates sometimes. Where is this large pool of men? I feel like I was misled and it’s not given what was promised. I paid $4500 for a service that is a total waste of money. Please help.Business response

We regret to hear the consumer’s relationship did not work out. She still has time available on her membership and we completely disagree with her assertions. IJL is not a scam, we have successfully been in business for 32 years and arranged over 2 million first dates. The consumer has 24 dates on her membership and only took advantage of 4 of them, she hasn’t given the program the time to work for her to make the assertions and assumptions on the process she has. We are sorry if she has not liked the process thus far or she feels it has not worked for her, however, this does not make her eligible for a refund of her membership fee. Her membership agreement clearly outlines the terms of the membership and what IJL will provide. We look forward to hearing from her when she is ready to take her account off hold.Customer response

They do not have the pool of make clients they promised. I deserve a refund ti get my money back. They made false promises. It’s so disappointing.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.IJL is obviously not interested in making this right. That’s why they have so many complaints! Please- no one fall for this SCAM!! This is awful. My husband passed away 3 years ago from cancer and I thought this would be a better option to find high quality men, but that was not the case. I have a college degree. I’m definitely not stupid! What I got was not what was promised! I don’t want anyone else to be taken advantage of like this! IJL should be ashamed of taking advantage of people.

I am an unsatisfied consumer, who requested termination of the contract due to non-performance, and refund of the membership fee in writing to an It's Just Lunch ( IJL ) representative named Connie last month. I conveyed the same to several "Executive Matchmakers", yet IJL Matchmakers continue to present dates instead of acknowledging I am unsatisfied and refunding my money. The experience I had with IJL did not meet my expectation. Men who did not meet my criteria were repeatedly presented to me as "compatible matches", and though the option was available to agree or not to agree to date a candidate, I was pressured to date whomever was presented despite my protests, or general lack of attraction to an individual - almost as if the date was being forced. In one case, a Matchmaker (Tamia), told me if I did not accept a Match she presented to me ("******"), I was decreasing my number of dating options (IJL promised 12 dates, and she told me - in essence - I was reducing that number to 11). Being pressured to meet with men I did not feel were compatible, or men I was not interested in was part of the IJL experience. I stated my discontent early on, through numerous verbal and written communications with IJL representatives. I attempted to dispute charge through my Bank last Spring. The Membership term began October of last year, I requested (of IJL) termination of the contract and a refund last May in writing with a detailed summary about why I was unsatisfied. IJL appreciates the time the consumer took to share her experience and we are regretful she has not enjoyed the process. We have contacted her directly and discussed her concerns regarding her matches, she came to the experts and the matches provided were aligned with the overall criteria provided and our teams expertise in the matchmaking field. We have stated our position that the consumer can utilize her active membership time where we will search and select her next date or utilize her hold time at which time she will pause the dating process. She is currently utilizing her hold time and we look forward to her returning to active status and enjoying the dating process.Customer response

For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.From what I can tell, it does not appear that It's Just Lunch has provided the refund. Please confirm that is the case. Without a refund of its membership fee, the issue is not resolved. I am no longer open to using its services nor have any desire to use its services, as its services were unsatisfactory, including the fact that iI was gaslighted by several of its representatives.

As previously stated, we are able to service the consumer based on the membership agreement she elected to enter into and willingly accepted on her own accord. Based on the terms of the agreement IJL has and can continue to provide the services and the client is not eligible for a refund. The statements made by the consumer IJL disagrees with. We presented matches in accordance with her criteria, and she did not even meet them in person, she declined each date, so for a claim to be made that the people being presented were like those she had been in past relationships with and IJL is not listening to her is absurd. She has not met these men and cannot make any such assertation from a verbal description and a photo which she made her assumption on and ultimately declined the date. Her account remains on hold as perhaps based on her past dating history she is not ready for dating yet. This hold is current portion of the membership agreement she is utilizing. We look forward to our continued partnership when she is ready to date. Thank you!

The consumer is not eligible for a refund, so we are unclear on why she thinks she would be receiving one. We have shared this position with the consumer on many occasions, we refer her to her membership agreement to understand the obligation of both parties under the agreement that she accepted when executing. I signed up for It's Just Lunch in Mid-February. In speaking to the sales rep, she talked about this hands on, personal experience with their company. I had let her know what I was looking for and asked to confirm that she felt as though It's Just Lunch would have a good candidate pool of met in the Los Angeles area. She said yes and that they would get to know me, be hands on, and this would be white glove service. The verbal agreement they provided me could not be further from the truth. I have shared with them a timeline of my experience and the beyond subpar service. There was even a time that I thought I was talking to AI which is not great. This was because of the lack of any emotion in the responses, the canned responses, and the lack of follow up questions. I feel like this is a total gaslight company. They go dark for extended periods of time and do not respond even when you reach out to contact them to check in. They do not actually get to know you but rather stick to the basics of age, religion, and race which are all things you can get on Tinder yourself. This is not what they sold and the service they provided is a joke. They refuse to give a refund and the times I have called to highlight the extensive shortcomings, when I ask for a refund, they keep talking as if I never said anything. It is the weirdest thing. They continue talking about the next match and how they miraculously have found someone. It is the strangest experience and makes me incredibly uncomfortable. For the extremely high price point for their service, I was promised a high touch, quality, white glove service for which this company has not come close to providing. They are a total scam and know how to gaslight. This is not how a business should be run and especially one that is customer service.Business response

IJL regrets to learn the consumer has not enjoyed her experience thus far. She is not giving the service a chance and meeting the people we have in mind for her, why come to a professional matchmaking service and decline the opportunity to meet the people that have been professionally selected for you? The consumer joined 2/17/23 and has a membership for 12 months, 24 dates, whichever comes last not to exceed 36 months and has been provided 3 dates thus far. She is currently on hold and we look forward to providing a positive dating experience once she returns to active status.Customer response

The contract is not valid due to fraud. Fraud meaning when I asked the matchmaker how old the IJL male dater was she said he was 54 years old (that is what it said on this old outdated picture). I then asked her what year was he born in she told me 1957. That would make him 67 years old. I would like to request a full refund of $1,999. I signed up for It's Just Lunch to find my soulmate. I have had 5 different matchmakers contact me. In my initial appointment I sat with Amy - the matchmaker for about 2 hours telling her what I wanted. The second matchmaker told me that I had to choose what they had in the database I couldn't choose what I wanted. The third matchmaker sent me outdated photos of men. I then requested a refund from the Vice President. She called me back and told me that she will not issue a refund with a nasty condescending tone. The following week the 4th matchmaker told me that all my information had been deleted and I had to start over. The 4th matchmaker sent me photos of men who looked like they were in prison. I was very upset and heartbroken. It was almost like this company was trying to torment me. The 4th matchmaker put my account on hold when I asked for a refund. I then received a call from a Marlo the 5th matchmaker last month after my account was placed on hold. This company is not as it perceives to be. They have outdated photos and they don't have what i am looking for. I never went out on any dates because they were choosing what they wanted me to have instead of what I wanted. IJL is not fraud and we completely disagree with the consumers statements. The consumer placed her membership on hold after 9 dates she declined to meet and then was placed on hold for not responding. Her membership indicates the following “Client may place membership on hold at any time for a period of up to six (6) months (cumulatively), at which time Client's membership expires (regardless of time or dates remaining). Client agrees to respond to telephone messages and email communications from IJL ("IJL Communications") within forty-eight (48) hours. If Client does not respond to two (2) consecutive IJL Communications within forty-eight (48) hours, IJL will place the Client's membership on hold until Client responds to IJL Communications and takes membership off hold.” The consumer did not contact IJL to return to active status and her membership is now completed.
