Ad Review

BBB promotes truth in advertising by contacting advertisers whose claims conflict with the BBB Code of Advertising.  These claims may come to our attention from our internal review of advertising, consumer complaints and competitor challenges.  BBB asks advertisers to prove their claims, change ads to make offers more clear to consumers, and remove misleading or deceptive statements.

On June 27, 2022, BBB contacted CBD American Shaman regarding advertised claims on their website:  https://americanshamanctx.wordpress.com/.

Specifically, BBB requested CBD American Shaman to substantiate or discontinue advertisements on their website alleging health and disease claims such as:

“Whether mental or physical, our products are formulated to help ease pains and provide relief.”

BBB Code of Advertising States: Claims relating to performance, energy savings, safety, efficacy or results for a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data.

CBD American Shaman also advertises CBD in pet food including:

“CBD oil may help your dog by providing relief from mild discomfort, promoting relaxation, managing occasional stress, and providing relief from occasional sleeplessness. Dog CBD oil also may provide positive mental support for your dog, helping to improve their mood, maintain cardiovascular function, and help promote joint flexibility. Our customers primarily use our dog CBD oil products to provide their dog with increased relaxation, reduced everyday stress, and joint health support. Your pups do so much to show you love, help them feel right at home with CBD oil for dogs.” https://cbdamericanshaman.com/pets.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states: CBD products marketed for pets and other animals have not been approved for any use in animals. https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/what-you-need-know-and-what-were-working-find-out-about-products-containing-cannabis-or-cannabis#:~:text=CBD%20can%20affect%20how%20other,which%20can%20lead%20to%20injuries.

BBB requested CBD American Shaman to provide evidence from recent, reliable, and competent studies or other objective data which may include scientific findings, FDA approvals, clinical studies, or other objective data to substantiate the claim or discontinue the advertised claims to address BBB’s concern.

As of August 1, 2022, CBD American Shaman failed to respond to BBB's requests to modify, substantiate or discontinue the advertised claims.
