The morning of March 1, 2023 I arrived at the Wood Buffalo Small Animal Hospital at 07:52 , as my dog was scheduled to be neutered on this day. They open at 08:00. During intake, the technician told me that I would be called around 14:00-14:30 to advise on, and that I could pick up between 16:00 and 17:00. I returned home at 08:40..At 10:02, a call came in from No Caller ID, and I let it go to voicemail. At 10:05, I listened to voicemail from the Animal Hospital informing me of a power outage at the facility, and that surgery may require rescheduling. Return calls received Network Busy notifications three times between 10:07 and 10:08. At 10:29, the call got through, and the technician told me that the power was still out, but they would know more by 11:15, and would call me back with confirmation of surgery or reschedule. I received no call, but assumed that the surgery had gone ahead.14:30 passed with still no call. At 15:37, I tried calling , but received Network Busy on 8 successive attempts. At this point I drove to the location.Once I got there, I asked the receptionist about my dog, and was told that he would need to be rescheduled. I asked why no one called me, and was told that they called when the power went out. I referred to the voicemail and subsequent direction that I would get a call confirming the surgery. After about 3 minutes, the Manager came and asked me to follow her into a care room for discussion. The Manager justified the oversight referencing how busy they were. I asked if my dog was crated all day, to which she confirmed that he was. I asked if he had been fed all day, since his surgery required fasting from the night before. She couldnt confirm he had been fed.To summarize, my dog hadnt eaten since 18:00 on Feb 28, and was crated from 08:30 to 16:15 on March 1, with no food or water or ability to relieve himself. This is unacceptable for an animal hospital, and my future veterinary business will surely be taken elsewhere.
