Alert

On June 12, 2023, SpoofTel came to the attention of BBB. This investigation was prompted by advertising issues and from a scam tracker.

A consumer signed up but alleged the only payment method option was through cryptocurrency. After payment was sent to the wallet address, he alleged "the account on the website was "credited" with the expected amount of funds, but attempts to make use of the funds quickly revealed that the services offered by SpoofTel were nonfunctional". As instructed in their website to request a refund, the consumer sent the email to sales@spooftel.com but the email bounced back. Emails to security@spooftel.com, privacy@spooftel.com and techsupport@spooftel.com were also undeliverable.  The consumer also called 1-866-776-6343 but was unable to reach your company.

On June 22, 2023, BBB also attempted to contact SpoofTel by calling (888-851-0249) listed on their website. BBB was not able to leave a message and email bounced back from techsupport@spooftel.com. Letters were sent asking what type of business they are, a brief description of the products or services they offer, their physical location and mailing address and their business license.

Based on the information related above, BBB cannot state with confidence that we have a clear understanding of the business model or practice.

Important Information

Advertising Review

BBB promotes truth in advertising by contacting advertisers whose claims conflict with the BBB Code of Advertising. These claims come to our attention from our internal review of advertising, consumer complaints and competitor challenges. BBB asks advertisers to prove their claims, change ads to make offers more clear to consumers, and remove misleading or deceptive statements.

On June 12, 2023, BBB asked the business to substantiate claims of "The World's Leader in caller ID spoofing", "SpoofTel.com is the longest running caller ID spoofing website" and "For the past 9 years, SpoofTel Ltd. has offered the world's highest quality and feature-rich caller ID spoofing service on the planet" appearing on online advertising. BBB's Code of Advertising requires advertisers to be prepared to substantiate their objective claims.  Claims that relate to tangible qualities and performance values of a product or service can be used when the advertiser has substantiation.  BBB also asked the business to substantiate the claim "Most importantly, SpoofTel offers the lowest price available". Advertisers should avoid making unqualified lowest price claims.  One appropriate qualification is to promise truthfully that the advertiser will meet or beat a lower price sold by others.  Claims must provide substantiation.

The business did not respond to BBB's request for revisions and clarifications in its advertising.
