Avoid this company at all costs if you don't want any additional stress or scheming on your already stressful moving day. My elderly parents were moving in late August of 2023. I was there all day to help them with the process. The movers were supposed to arrive sometime before noon, so when they had not arrived by 2pm I was worried they weren't coming. I phoned the company to inquire, and Tamara, one of the owners, told me that "the staff had overslept" and that they would be there soon. It was another 2 hours of waiting before I decided to call them again. It was the same lady, Tamara, and at this time I was told that they were having mechanical issues with the moving truck itself. She stated this in a matter-of-fact way and offered no apology at this time. The movers finally arrived during the evening, and it was at this point we were informed that the staff had been hard at work since 9am with other jobs. Not only had the owner messed up the scheduling, but she had also lied to me directly over the phone both times I inquired. The team then asked us if we had paid the $150 deposit, which my parents had. One of the men had to phone the owner to double-check this as per their policy, and he spent over 10 minutes on the phone with them. After the call, he asked my parents how much they paid as a deposit because the owners had no record of any payment from them. If my parents had forgotten either how much they'd paid or if they even had paid, then that would've been extra cash in the negligent owners' pockets. The team of men were hardworking, efficient, and apologetic for the delays in time and the uncertain deposit, however, from what I witnessed that day, the owners are careless about both their standards, and the comfortable "senior relocation" that they promise to provide.Sunrise Moving & Storage Response

Unfortunately when a move is booked for the afternoon we cannot guarantee a time the guys will be there as we have another job in the morning and you were made aware about this. I’m sorry it was later than you had anticipated. The comment about the guys “sleeping in” is not true the guys had a job in the morning. The whole situation was out of our control and I’m sorry you had to think about it for months before writting your review. As for the comment about the deposit, we are a professional company we don’t need to take people’s $150 for extra cash. We specialize in senior relocation and our guys take pride in helping seniors with their transition.Review from Lianne K

Started off great - halfway through the one mover ran through my screen door and broke the frame a large piece of plastic popped off, broke the wheel and bent the frame, broke my solar light from my deck and dented furniture. When the bill came it was over $900 for 5 hours, in town move. I simply asked him to break the bill down for me and what about the damages. He tossed the bill on my stove, went and used my bathroom, didn't ask, took a pee, left dirt all over the counter. Told me that is what the cost is, rolled his eyes and said this isn't the first time customers have disputed the bill. Called the owner, said "here, you're on speaker", and walked away. The owner took half hour off the bill, so $80 that's it. She gave excuses for the mover's rudeness, saying "oh, that doesn't sound like him". I sent pictures of the broken frame, no other response. I'm not sure why the one mover was so rude and abrupt. It was a very stressful ending to an already stressful day. :( Would not use again. Still hard to believe how agitated the one mover was. Odd behavior. They don't seem to care about repeat business, given how they handled my move.Review from Martin C.

We arranged with Sunrise Moving one month before our move from the Mainland to the Island. Tamara assured us that our belongings would be picked up and stored at Sunrise's secure warehouse. We felt this was a huge advantage as we had not found a house yet and thought it would be a huge plus for our things to be on site at Sunrise and they could load them up and take them to our new house once we had purchased. We had 4 phone calls with Tamara prior to the move. The last call was four days before our move. We called at this time to confirm that the movers would have wardrobe boxes to store out hanging clothing and that our items were going to Sunrise's storage facility in Qualicum. On moving day, the movers worked hard and we were happy with their work. But, they did not bring wardrobes for our clothing. They did find one on the truck and then provided some small boxes. We had to jam our hanging clothing into the boxes. And, instead of transporting our items to their secure warehouse storage (their words), it would be transported to a public storage facility in Parksville, or Coombs - they weren't sure which. It was disappointing that the two items we called Tamara to confirm, a few days before the move, were not handled. It's now 24 hours after our move and we have a key to a padlock, but we do not know where our items are stored. The bill arrived the day after the move and is for $700 more than the amount quoted. We realize because we were on the mainland they could not view how much had to be moved, but the truck was not full, there was minimal furniture (mostly boxes - we liquidated most of our furnishings), and I helped move boxes the entire three hours that the guys were loading. After receiving the bill, we called Tamara to tell her our concerns and ask her how we could turn this into a better experience. *** **** ** **** ** **** ************ *** ** **** ****** **** ** *********** I will pay the bill and leave an extremely disappointed, unhappy customer!Sunrise Moving & Storage Response

We did our best for this customer. The guys did a really good job for them and the warehouse situation was out of our control. We had a customer that was supposed to have their belonhings moved out of our storage the day prior but their house wasnt ready so they had to cancel. This was the only unit we had left. But as discussed with Martin we always bring our customers to another secure storage that we work with when our storage is full. Its close by and actually better for the customer as they wanted to access their stuff on a regular basis which is hard yo do at our warehouse as we keep other peoples belongings and cannot just have people coming and going as discussed with the customer. We did not think this would be an issue. His comments about not knowing where it is is false. They have all access and information on where it is as well as the gate code and lock(I have an email we sent to customer as proof) As for the wardrobes, we only had one left we were waiting on a shipment. Our sincere apologies for that. As discussed with the customer a quote is just a quote we are upfront and honest with our pricing. It was a close estimate not far off. The "issues" came about when the invoice was due. Then everything became an issue and they told us if we give them money off they wont complain. I dont feel they have an adequate reason to make an issue as the move went smooth and the guys did a great job. Im sorry your furniture is in a differemt facility with easier access. Its unfortunate you are trying to sabotage our business for wardrobes and changing the storage. Im happy to hear you are happy with the guys!Customer Response

At the time of writing the review, I did not know where my belongings were or how to access them. Once I paid the invoice (on the same day it was provided to me), Tamara did email me the address and gate code. This was several days after our belongings had been picked up by Sunrise. She tells me that she has mailed me a spare key to the lock. I have not received it yet. We were promised a service and Sunrise did not deliver on their promise. We wanted to access our belongings one time and one time only. Other than that we don't want them until we purchase a new home. Tamara never mentioned that accessing our things at their warehouse was an issue. If it was we would have found our own storage facility. The storage facility she placed our items at is one hour from where we have relocated to. We visited it this week and fortunately our items seem to have been delivered carefully. But, Tamara quoted us $300 per month. The monthly rate at the storage facility she found for us is $350 per month. My intention is not to sabotage Sunrise Moving. We picked this company because of the warehouse storage and we wanted to support a small business. If I had seen the F rating on Better Business Bureau ** *** * ****** ** **** I would have gone with a different mover. My hope was that my review would help others who were thinking of choosing a mover and that hopefully, Tamara would learn from this and change the way she treats people. Sadly, I don't think this will be the case. This will be my last comment on the matter.
