On April 28, 2024, huge intimidating-looking man that Canadian Tire store on ************* in Vancouveremploys to guard the western exit of the Cambie store in Vancouver assaulted me after I made a fully paid for purchase. While I was proceeding to exit, he demanded in rude manner to see a receipt, which he has no right and legal grounds to do so from paying customer. It was not a request, there were no "please" or "could you" words. After I refused and proceed to exit the store, he followed me to the exit door, into the street, repeatedly blocking my way, and then repeatedly and aggressively pushing me with his hands and grabbing and trying to yank my purchase from my hands, while screaming in my face. This is clearly an assault and should be dealt with appropriately and in most serious manner. And it represents the failure of Canadian Tire management to educate it's employees on human rights, customer rights, what conduct is acceptable, and actual company's commitments. There were two shift managers (if they are managers) witnessing the situation. I asked to file a complaint, and the female manager let me know that she is already taking care of the situation. But I think that nothing was done - the employee was right back at his assigned spot. So it seems that assaulting a paying customer by the exit door controller man is business as usual. And he has been working at the Cambie store for many months already, making sure to leave bitter taste with many Canadians who have been shopping there for many years. People like him, as a result of Canadian Tire shoplifting-prevention policy, make loyal customers look elsewhere for a better, more respectful shopping experience. What happened to your commitments, Canadian Tire? What happened to respectful treatment of your customers? Are you aware of many women, including my wife and her friends, refusing to shop at ****** store because of intimidating and rude anti-theft enforcer, that you are employing?******

Im sorry this happened. While we do have contracted security guards at the exits, the receipt check is a request and not a mandate. This guard overstepped and I have spoken with him personally to ensure this does not happen again. If you have any issues in the future with this or anything at all in my store, please ask for me. Im in the store 6 days/week, except Wednesdays.Sincerely,*********************

On April 10 at 7 pm I was ******** *** ********** ****** by a security guard at the location at 2290 Cambie Street. He was standing in the way of customers in the line up for the cash out and when I asked him to step back 6 feet, for COVID, he said "**** ***" and "I am *not* stepping back". I let him know this behaviour was unacceptable and disrespectful and that ** *** * ******** *** ********* He then physically grabbed hold of my shopping cart and ********* tried to yank the basket from my hands at least four times while continuing to ***** ********* in a *********** manner. I asked to speak to the on-shift manager to address these actions and rather than addressing the violence of the security guard, he refused me service and escorted me out of the location ** ** * ** * ********* **** ********* ** ******** ******* ***** *** ********** ******* *** ********* ********* ** * ******** ****** I want a full apology for the senior management *** *********** ******* ***** ** ******** ***** *** ******  There is no excuse for violence of any kind, ever, and violence in response to naming of unacceptable behaviour was alarming and disturbing. The manager on shift handled the scenario badly. ****** ******* ********* ***** ***** ******** *** ********** ****** ** ************ ** **** ******** *** ******* It was appallingly.

I apologize for the unpleasant exchange. While there may have been words exchanged, there was no physical *******. The *** attended our store after the customer filed an ******* complaint with police. Officers questioned security personnel and viewed video of the incident and found no grounds for an ******* claim. I do not support my staff using language the customer has indicated and agree that would be unacceptable. I appreciate the customer making me aware of the incident. The staff involved have been made aware of the complaint and I have taken appropriate corrective action.
