In October of 2022, I enrolled my son ******* ****** in Rileys Right Away driving school. I paid the first installment of $450.00 for ***** to teach my son to drive. ******* completed the in class portion and went driving twice. ***** was rude and told my son he was wasting his time, as he wasn't getting enough practice at home. We had to cancel ******** driving test for February as he refused to drive with *****. The man is unhinged, rude and has since had his ability to teach taken away by The Registry of Motor Vehicles. I have several nasty messages from *****. This business should be shut down for good.Initial Complaint

We paid for driving course, she did classroom session then was not able to get in car for several months due to Covid. The course fee included a 1 hr road prep and use of the company vehicle for test. Her test was booked Aug 9 but Colin. Today Oct 26 he informed her he is not allowed to drive with students and she can not use his car. I asked for explanation or refund for not fulfilling what we paid for. Since then he has filled my phone with text msgs accusing parents of his issues, saying he’s calling Cps and suing parents due to his inability to properly instruct students and finish what was paid for.Initial Complaint

My daughter has enrolled in driving school with this company. The company refused to finish with the driving lessons. Stated they would give a partial refund of $200 and a letter stated what she has completed to take to another driving school. This has not been done.Business response

I have a video of me telling her daughters class that if they have any fears of driving to conquer it before taking my course, I also said if you can't get out driving 2-3 times a week to leave my school now. I asked them all if they understood and they said yes. I also said today is the only day you will receive a refund if you decide to leave they all said they understand. I went driving with her daughter and she was scared of driving so the driving session only lasted an hour. Almost 3 months passed with her daughter not practicing at all so I told her she can leave my school and go to a different one and I will send her info into the government and credit her for what she did which I did send it to the government. Her daughter decided to go to a different school and we give no refunds ever after the first day of class. We also emailed a letter that we attached to her with all the rules. When I answered yes about her refund it was while I was driving with a student teaching and just answered not realizing. I've done nothing wrong and laid out the rules from the beginning with all the students answering yes they understand which I made them all type the answer in online on ****. I have all the texts between me and her daughter and the video of me telling her class the rules. I contacted her mother ******** ***** she didn't even know what was going on because she was never involved.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because:
The business owner said he would refund $200 ( which we have in writing) that was not done. He changed his mind after the statement was made. It not not fall on the customer that said owner wasn’t paying attention to what he said. Owner also did not complete the 10 hours of driving training with my daughter. ****** **** says there needs to be a letter from the driving instructor stating all that was completed. We have not received the letter. There was nothing signed by a parent or guardian agreeing to the terms of an agreement. Owner has a verbal consent with a minor. I haven’t needed to contact the business owner prior to this issue. To have this issue resolved. I am requesting the partial refund of $200 and the letter stating what was completed.Business response

The mother never signed the student up and we don't need any parent to sign the student up. I have a video of me telling her class what the rules are giving them the one and only chance they have to get a refund. I have students from her class who can vouch for this. When I answered the question in text I thought it was about sending the information to the government which we did. We gave her and every other student from her class the option to go to a different driving school if they won't follow our instructions but it is with no refund. Her daughter made the decision that she wanted to go to a different driving school no other student did that so we credited her the things she did at our school which the government has now as we speak and has had it for 2 weeks now. This mother was never involved with any of this we had to reach out to her to get her daughter to stop messaging us with horrible messages which she made her apologies to us. This mother also went on our ****** page and had her and 20 of her friends give a 1 star and bad review. This is now harrasement and I'm now getting the law involved we done nothing wrong.

This event just happened today, June 15/22. Rileys Right Away Driver Training has accepted money in exchange to provide Driver Training, both Classroom and road. Currently, the Owner has provided classroom training most of the road training but refuses to issue the certificate of completion. Today, The owner and driving instructor took my daughter out for last required driving lesson prior to her final test. During the training as my daughter is driving the owner/instructor begins to belittle her on her on how she is driving, her apparent lack of confidence and how is tired of trying to instruct her and feels she is not trying hard enough. My daughter does suffer from extreme anxiety which made her become upset at the non stop belittling The instructor/owner went so far as to say " how can you expect to have children if you cannot pass a road exam." In previous lessons my daughter told him she went away to school (university) but decided to not continue as she was not sure what she wanted to do as far as a career is concerned, during today's lesson, he brings that up and says " it is no wonder you cannot finish university, you cannot complete your driving in a year, its taking you 1.5 years to get to this point, you should be done, how do you expect to have babies if you cannot get your drivers license." What does anything he said have to do with the driving lesson? further more, he upset her so much, he actually kicked her out of the car and refused to take her back to Access Nova Scotia and now refuses to issue her the certificate of completion, which means we are now out 790 dollars and will have to start over. I called the police but no illegal issues so they referred me to contact Access Nova Scotia to complain, which I did and still waiting for a return call. I am demanding she receive her certificate of completion, which he offered when we first talked on the phone but know refuses or a full Refund.Business response

Hello I am responding to a letter received the ID# is 17429383.I challenge all that was said that I did. My student ******** ****** had a road test booked last year around this time that we canceled the day of the road test for the same reasons as of June 15, 2022. The day of the road test she gets in the car saying I haven't drove much and I said no worries you got this so from the beginning she wasn't too excited. We did a practice run where she didn't try and in fact almost didn't stop at 4 red lights that we had to slam the brakes on for and she stayed at a stop sign when turning right instead of turning plus many other things so I finally said I'm not letting you use my car for the road test that's when she started to get mad and say she has to and stuff and I said no you can use your family vehicle we are going back to ****** **** ****** and I'm dropping you off. During the drive back she's still going at me about doing the test in my car and I'm telling her I don't feel safe letting her use my car and I gave her an example trying to tell them why they are not ready for their road test and comfortable driving. It might be a horrible example but I should not be in the position to try to make them understand they need to drive, I told her it takes 9 months to create life the hardest most precious thing on earth and most students are not ready for their road test in 9 months cause they don't drive now it might be a horrible example I agree but not once did I say she shouldn't have kids or can't. As we are driving back to Access Nova Scotia she almost hits a curb so I grabbed the wheel and I touched her finger a bit when grabbing the wheel and she said dont touch me at that point I felt unsafe with her in my car and pulled the car over asking her to get out while waiting there until her grandfather picked her up and I called her dad which he understood at the time until she got home then complained. She is an adult I'm allowed to ask her to leave my vehicle when I'm being accused of stuff it was best for both parties.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because:
I reject the response by the owner as he called me after he kicked her out of the car and told me she is a good driver and will have no problem passing the test, he also texted me (which I still have) stating that ******** will have no issues passing the test. I will agree his use of an example was of giving birth to a child is in no way close to being an example of how long one should take to get their license. The owners response is not surprising as he is spinning two stories one she is a horrible driver, the other she is a good driver and will pass the test. She cant be both, so I will say the owner knows he crossed the line and needs a narrative to condone his actions. You are accused of inappropriate comments about having children and telling my daughter that no wonder she can't pass university When you can't pass your driver's test. She never accused you of touching her, it was you grabinng the steering wheel she was referencing.Business response

I never once said she is not capable of passing the road test and yes, I do believe she can pass the road test if she tries. The problem is she is not trying and is freezing up during the day of the road test causing her to not stop at red lights that we are coming up on going above the speed limit causing me to slam on the brakes several times, she is sitting at stop signs just staring straight ahead not looking at nothing and then when she does decide to turn, she turns so sharp we almost go on the sidewalk causing me to grab the wheel and hit the brake. There is no time limit for anyone to get their license it can take ten years if they want but the day of the road test they should come prepared and ready to try and if they don't want to try they can cancel the road test. We as a driving school are allowed to refuse use of our car for the road test if the student is not ready or trying, it puts our vehicle at a higher risk of an accident and our vehicle is the business. We can't stop someone from going for their road test only the person going and ****** **** ****** can do that we just refused use of our car for the safety of our vehicle. I did use having a child in 9 months as an example and it probably was a horrible example but my intentions behind it was letting someone with anxiety know that if they drive as much as possible in those 9 months of having their learners they will be comfortable enough to take the road test. Even students that practice for the full 9 months and are comfortable driving have issues the day of the road test but students with anxiety and fear and no real practice they mess up the day of the road test that's all. I have not mention anything about her school at all other than how is she liking it like I ask all my students. I was accused of touching her hand while we were driving back to Access Nova Scotia so I then felt threatened of being accused of something else so I pulled the vehicle over and asked her to please exit my vehicle, she is an adult I did not ask a teenager to leave my vehicle and I only did it for mine and her safety. I did stay there the whole time waiting until her grandfather picked her up as I was talking to her father at the same time cause I told him her grandfather just picked her up, he understood everything and said she freezes up and to not worry until she told him when she got home that I said she shouldn't have kids and that she gave up on school. I hope she and everyone else enjoys the joys of having children. I messaged ******** 2 months before the road test asking have you been driving she said no not really, I said drive as much as possible it will help the day of the road test she said yes I will. The day of the road test she gets in the car and said I haven't been driving I said no worries you got this trying to hype her up and it didn't work, we canceled a road test hrs before this time a year ago for the same reason then we canceled another road test in March then we have the problem of her not trying the day of the third road test so I refuses to risk my vehicle and let her use it. I half to call in daily when someone cancels a road test to get them a new road test date cause Access Nova Scotia is booked 5 months in advance so we as driving schools call in 5-10 times a day hoping to catch a cancelation that we can put our student in so they don't half to wait 5 months, I've done that twice now for her taking a month each time to catch one. We refused use of our vehicle for students before ******** and will with students after her for the same reason it's best for the vehicle. I have all the text messages and phone calls with ******** and her Dad still if needed.
