I called them to find out where the leak was in my basement causing slow flooding. Just to fo that the charged me $457.80. I find this very excessive. The originated from Crack under the.rental hot water tank. It took the plumber just 1/2 hr. I find it a rip off!!Review from Stéphane P

I called John the Plumber to help us doing the rough-in and finishing of a kitchen and bath project in the ********** area (***********). They where very good to show up quickly and where nice on the phone. We had a first plumber coming to quote the job but he had to ask a more specialized plumber to come. The second plumber that came in (********) suggested a number of adjustments to the plumbing and he suggested I don't ask questions because I had to "trust him"... The quote came in at over 8 000 $ for a job we had figured would cost around 2500$. Plus the suggested solution was adding addition repairs to the bathroom below because he would need access (which was not necessary in the end). We then had a chance to chat with City inspector (*********) which gave us a few tips to ensure the plumbing work would past the inspection (and respect the code). We had another plumber coming in and the invoice for the work was 2180 $. I must say it was my first experience with John the Plumber and it will be the last. I felt frauded by the quote as an attempt to take advantage of the short time we had to to the job. A job quoted 4X the actual price (and passed inspection) can only be done as an abuse or by incompetency. Is this what we call predatory behavior ?Review from josef d

Based on published reputation of this business I requested removal of blockage in my kitchen drain. The plumber came, try to remove the blockage and di not fix the problem He stated that he needs longer snake. He came the next day but even the longer snake did not fix the issue, then he started to take apart the plumbing under the sink. He recommended another company and left. I called the recommended plumbing company, they came and pointed to me issue with broken fittings under the sink. The broken fittings was result of the last plumber operation. The company completed their work by removing the blockage but also pointed out that the John the plumber company should come again and fix the broken fittings. I call the John the plumber, they came and gave me an estimate of $400 to fix permanently the plumbing under the sink. My assumption was that since the plumber broke the plumbing he should fix it for free. $400 is more then excessive estimate. In my opinion the cost of material would be about $40 and 1 - 2 hours of work. I am totally dissatisfied with the service of John the plumber.Review from glen b

**** B Our disaster began when we contacted John the Plumber early Feb 2024 to reinstall a set of ***** *** ************* we had removed thinking they were leaking. They were not as it was a broken pipe in the ceiling below the ***. A young man arrived shortly after and said we had good access as the drywall in the adjacent bathroon was open and would provide us a quote. Visit cost $80. Quote was for $677.99 tax included to reinstall the rough-in, install shut-off & reinstall *************. First visit we were told that our Delta parts were old & we should buy **** to replace them. We did but **** doesnt make ***** taps that fit the existing holes. Then it was suggested we buy a new Delta rough-in. We did $350.00 Next we were told we needed new ************* which we ordered $750.00 that turned out to be identical to our old parts. Over 2plus visits this young man spent at least 10 hours trying to reinstall the parts. At some point they sent a "master" plumber to help. The last thing he told us was that they could do the job he just wanted to check with Delta. We waited and finally contacted **** at the office & were told it would be $5,000.00 to complete the ******** believed we could not get any other plumber to do it. They offered us a full refund for their work only which we accepted. ($80+677.99). Since the new rough-in ( minus shut-offs) was party installed & taps faucet had been used we could not return them so my 76 year old husband who is not a plumber spent an afternoon with the installation instruction & finished the job himself. It is now Apr 23 & we now have a working bath*** with no leaks. We would never recommend John the Plumber.Review from Kevin H

They are very expensive to hire and they used a pricing scheme that involves an automatic $350 charge when you involve any copper pipe soldering. Which was not advised to me over the phone when I asked about their costs on soldering and replacing copper fittings. (I would not have selected them if I knew). The job took about 20 minutes and in the end; the replacement about 2ft of inch copper pipe and soldering of only 4x fitting cost me the $350 +tax. The employee was polite and skilled, but the costs seems high for amount the work that was quoted and completed. Also beware of the high price for them just to show up and quote your job. It definitely pressured me to except the quote or loss money for them to show up. I would not recommend this company to a friend due the high costs and pricing scheme. ***** (******)Review from Bill K

We had good luck with the company previously - quick and professional. This time I was quoted $1200 for what I was told, a complex repair. It ended being dead simple and taking 1 1/2 hours to complete. When I asked what went into the pricing - I wasn't griping - they simply refused to answer. Nothing but dismissive condescension from the help desk. As a crowning touch they didn't want to credit the $85 I had to pay to get the initial quote. I had to get loud to get them to honor their own promise. This short-term greed will sink the company, just watch. Strongly suggest you avoid.Review from Janet V

I have had a very positive experience with all the staff of John the Plumber that I dealt with recently. After experiencing a basement flood due to the surcharge of the city storm sewers on August 10, the plumbing at my house required a fair amount of work to reduce the chances of this every happening again. This included CCTV scans along both laterals to the street as well as inside the property, the installation of 2 back flow valves, and the replacement of aged pipes in the basement floor. The work was completed by a team lead by ******* who was very professional, polite and patient in explaining everything to me. ******* always responded promptly to my questions and concerns. I would like to acknowledge everyone on ***************** - ******, ***, *****, and *******.John The Plumber Response

Fantastic work.We hired them on an urgent timescale: our insurance company gave us 30 days to rip out the Poly B piping that came with our new house and replace it with PEX. We reached out to five firms; theirs was one of the three that quoted. They know the value of quick responses: my phone rang not more than 3 minutes after I filled out their web form, they scheduled a walkthrough for 2pm the next day, and I got my fixed-price quote before 6pm that day. Theirs was the lowest price by about 10% cheaper than the next lower. The ******* had done the Poly B repiping several times, and it showed. He took pains to walk through the entire house to identify the problems. He managed my expectations: he said to expect 2.5 days on site, but that his team would try to finish within two, and they did. They agreed to try to minimize drywall damage, and they delivered on that promise. His team were personable, pleasant, and worked diligently throughout both days on site. And, most importantly, the ******* was there at the end of the job to ensure his team had dotted the "I"s and crossed the "t"s.I was thoroughly impressed across the board.Review from Margaret M

Hello, John the Plumber, ********************. A plumber is unreliable, non-transparent and dishonest. I had an appointment Saturday, September 10, 2023 between **** p.m. to repair a leaking toilet tank. I waited 2 days for a no show. Got a cellphone call, unknown to me, no message left. At 12:10, I called asking if my appointment was still good. Office staff checked the system and told me the plumber called and rang my intercom and there was no answer. I don't answer unknown numbers on my cellphone. My Intercom is connected to my landline and I didn't receive a missed call on my intercom telephone system. I verified my system on Tuesday and so the Intercom System was working. I can only believe the plumber was telling the office an untruth about coming to my building. The office staff person tried to call the plumber to see if he could come but told me to be patient it would take some time. At 20 to 2, I re-called to find out what was happening. The same person didn't remember my name and/or my appointment. I was very upset. Suddenly, he says, "oh, the plumber is now replying and he can't make it today and I'll have to rebook." I simply replied, "forget it" and hung up. My valuable time was wasted waiting for a plumber who had no respect for his client and perhaps the reputation of the company he was working for.I am writing so others who believe in honesty and transparency will think twice about doing business with this plumbing business. Had I been able to read the complaint reviews prior to making an appointment, I would not have even called this business. I have since hired an efficient plumber and have my job done. Thank you.*******************************, September 13, 2023Review from Nicolas D
