Thank you for letting us know about Mr. ******** complaint; he has also posted on all social media sources as well. Tier 1 Veterinary Medical Center is an ******************************** providing small animal care in  Matanuska Susitna Borough, ******.

Mr. ******** was triaged by our emergency room and our Licensed Veterinary Technicians found his animal was in a non-life threatening condition but did need treatment. He was given a 3.5 hour wait time, as other life-threatening emergencies were treated ahead of his arrival. ******************** chose to cancel his appointment and leave Tier 1 Veterinary Medical Center.

We are not responsible for the number of emergency animal hospitals in the Matanuska Susitna Borough, in ******. We wish there were more emergency providers throughout the country and that emergency rooms did not have substantial wait times.

******************** is correct in the fact that he was given a wait time of 3.5 hours. ******************** is incorrect in making assumptions about the other patients who were triaged and to our knowledge, has no medical background to validate those assumptions of the patients medical condition. All walk-in patients are triaged by medical professionals at our small animal clinic just as they are in a human hospital's emergency room.

We believe that ************************ animal SHOULD have been treated and remain perplexed as to why he chose to leave without treatment; especially if he thought it was life-threatening and could result in his animal's death.

As a Veteran Owned Business, we provide all of our veterans and first responders with priority care as well as discounted services.

Staff were very friendly, the building is clean and comfortable. However, the wait is exceedingly long. The vet tech in the procedure room did not know dog behavior and was presenting actions that seem threatening to dogs, did not do a adequate observation of what we were in for, and unnecessary procedures were recommended by the veterinarian on duty who did not see us prior to the recommendation. This office is more expensive than others in the area, but is open later hours for emergency care.

Hi ******! When ***** arrived at our Veterinary Hospital for a Laceration Repair, she was checked in at 8:16 p.m. and ***** was treated, cared and you were checked out by 10:43 p.m.  2 hours and 27 minutes in an emergency room isn't "fun" for anyone especially since *****'s visit wasn't planned.

When you arrived, we provided you with an estimate and our recommendations on what needed to be done to treat the laceration. Those recommendations consisted of: sedation, sterile surgical preparing of the wound, laceration repair, drain placement and a local anesthesia. What was unnecessary, in your medical opinion, for our DVM to treat the wound?

As for the room technician not, "know dog behavior and was presenting actions that seem threatening to dogs" - it is hard to imagine that happened as our room technicians go through integral, advanced training in order to triage animals in the exam rooms.  However, we are happy to go back and review the footage and look for an opportunity to enhance our training for team members, if need be.

Yes, we are more expensive for routine care but not for emergency medicine. As you may recall, we were also the only location open at such hours and willing to treat *****. Our team works strenuously to ensure that we are able to serve our community with the understanding that the costs are fair and reasonable for emergency medical procedures to take place.

Thank you for your comment. But from one professional who was previously a vet tech and has worked over 25 years and the canine field to other professionals, the behavior in the vet tech room was unacceptable. Please consider additional trainings for your technicians on how to approach dogs that are in pain and or anxious. The vet tech then proceeded to not even examine the wound, I parted my dog's hair to show her the wound as she observed from a distance not acceptable with observation. The procedure required two/three stitches for an inch long incision on a superficial wound. That is not a procedure that needed sedation. The only reason the wound needed a stitch is because of where it was located. This is a procedure I routinely performed as a vet tech that only takes about 1 minute to do if that. After I refused the sedation, no attempts were made to possibly cover the wound in any way shape or form or even clean it or examine it further, which suggests lack of care on your part for your clients. I left your office with a dog that had an open wound. Being it was after hours, I am not upset that it cost more than a vet visit but the level of care we received did not equal your base fee.
