In December 2020 I became a resident of Forest Hills, and a former friend assisted me as a co-signer because her credit score was better than mine. Due to my credit score I was charged a refundable $500 deposit. I meticulously maintained my apartment throughout the duration of my occupancy of I131. Upon relocating to Fort Worth Texas in July, the Forest Hills office staff reached out to me asking for my forwarding address to provide me with my deposit refund. I provided them with the correct address, however my former friend who cosigned with me texted me making me aware that a check for me had been sent to her. I told Forest Hills and they refused to reissue me a deposit refund check until their office in New York received the previously sent. After receiving the first check returned, Forest Hills mailed a second check to the correct address, however this time it had an incorrect last name on the envelop and the usps mailman returned my check to Forest Hills. The third and final check that Forest Hills issues was mailed with my name to the address of my former friend for a second time, where I had never resided. For weeks I complained to Forest Hills that I had not received the check and after extensive attempts to communicate with them they finally provided me with the statement that the check had been cashed and that they would not be issuing any other checks. I explained I had never received the check much lees cashed it, and their response was that I open a police investigation for fraud. I did, and the police were able to identify the person who stole and cashed my check. However, Forest Hills refuses to take responsibility for sending a check in my name to an address I have lived at in a state I do not live in—not once, but twice, leading to a thief acquiring and cashing it. Furthermore, I have sent numerous emails asking why the check images of the stolen check show an amount equal to half of my deposit, and no explanation of charges has been provided to me.

The resident moved out without providing our offices a forwarding address.  Our office in Hot Springs reached out for a forwarding address without knowing that the corporate office had sent the refunded amount of the deposit to the cosigner on file.  Our office in Hot Springs spoke with the resident on multiple occasions regarding her check.  It was explained to her that once a resident moves out, their information is sent to corporate offices which are in New York, and they handle all refunds.  All correspondences with resident were forwarded to our direct supervisor.  The refund check that was sent was not for the full deposit paid, which was explained to the resident, both at lease signing as well as when notice was provided-per our policy.   This resident has received all monies owed to her and her account has been closed out by our office as well as our corporate office.
