The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.
On April 24, 2024, The University of Phoenix, Inc entered into a Proposed Final Judgment and Permanent Injunction with the California Attorney General’s Office. The Judgment settles allegations that the business used deceptive and unlawful tactics to recruit service members. Under the terms of the Judgment the business was ordered to permanently enjoin and restrain from violating California’s Unfair Competition law and California’s False Advertising Law at entry upon or activities at military installations, or in the solicitation of service members, veterans, or their family members, employees, or agents, soliciting on or at military installations, at career and hiring fairs, at Yellow Ribbon or other pre- or post-deployment events, at Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) events, and during on-base educational office hours, attending or participating in mandatory events for service members and career and hiring fairs, unless attending to solely hire employees, using military identification cards or vehicle decals to gain access to military installations, using military seals in marketing or promotional material and products, and shall pay $4.5 million in investigative fees. The Proposed Final Judgment and Permanent Injunction was for settlement purposes only and should not be considered as an admission of guilt or finding of violation of the law.This action is final.
