I requested service from Dons Garage. After the completion I became curious about the costs and went online to research parts and cost. I soon learned that I payed nine hundred dollars for Garage door opener that could be purchased at Lowes, ********** for less then three hundred dollars. I carefully looked at what was installed and believed I could have done the install. Total cost to me sixteen hundred dollars. I am sorry I did business with them i did notify them of my dissatisfaction and have not heard a word.WARRNING BE CAREFUL IF DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS GROUP.Review from Daniel B

I blame myself for not checking out Dons carefully before hiring them. I bit on a $29.95 tune up deal, but was talked into an $800 deal by the end of Dons visit. The tech was an experienced marketer and I hadnt done my homework. The $800 deal was said to be a discounted price that lasted only while the tech was at my home. No time for my thought or research. Tech offered to add installation of three (3) upgraded bearings if I opted for the $12.95/mo maintenance plan. I declined and later found that the bearings retail for $5/each. Further research found that the two (2) springs that cost me $627 are available online for $101. Spring replacement was recommended because the installed springs were 2 years old and allegedly near the end of their dependable performance. Finally, this is the only tune-up of the many Ive purchased that showed no evidence of lubrication of the springs, door hinges, or track bearings. Door now squeaks during operation.Expensive ****** learned.Review from Rick K

Well they fixed my garage but expensive, over $700 for a single, the spring alone was over $400, quite a surprise, They showed up on time and with everything they needed but expensive, just know if you call them its going to be a lot of money.Review from lisa c

Re: ***** Garage Door - unable to post as a recommendation Customer BEWARE. The previous home owner had a card for ***** Garage door, so I called when I thought I might need a tune-up. New owners of ***** Garage Door now, and now use very scammy tactics. Gave a tune up, and said the jerky motion was normal. Was going to charge me a trip fee, so I just said give it a tune up. They ended up putting me on a monthly re-occuring charge in addition to service (was not made aware they were doing this, and yes, I know I should have read the fine print) but I was unaware because I only use that savings account for home repairs. After several attempts to get a call back, they only respond in text messages and kept saying regional manager would contact me, but never did. I cannot recommend them and if you previously used them, they are not the same reputable company of the past.Don's Garage Doors Response

Our vehicle roof rack hung up on our garage door as it was closing which resulted in a badly damaged door panel, rails and cable, all user error. The damaged door was inoperable. We called Don's Garage Doors after the first local company we called could not get to our house right away. ***** field technician got the door rollers back in the rails and disconnected from the opener. Our home has a 3 car garage, a double door and a single door. Our damaged door was the double door. This is a 5 panel, metal insulated carriage style door, with 4 glass vision panels across the top panel. The field technician stated that the door manufacturer (CHI) was out of business and they could not match the damaged panels. They offered to quote a new door to closely match the damaged unit. The technician showed us the slight differences in the door panel appearance which was to be acceptable. ***'s prepared a proposal on the spot and we reviewed it together on the phone the 'sales manager' as well. We were taken back at the proposal price - $11,500+ inclusive of a new opener for approximately $1,200. We needed an operating door asap and trusted Don's Garage Doors as they installed the original doors, we agreed to pay the 50% deposit to get the new door on order which had a 3-5 week lead time. We provided the proposal and photos to our insurance carrier. They responded, the price looked high and issued payment for approx. 65% of the down payment value. To support ***'s cost proposal we solicited two new proposals which came in at $5,000+ and $6,000+. The $6,000 proposal included matching the exact original door and door company that ***'s said was out of business! After providing ***'s with copies of the other proposals they offered to price match the $6,000 proposal. The door was installed today and now the window size does not match the other door - again, not conveyed. ***** was not transparent and only had their $ in mind!Don's Garage Doors Response

***'s provided me one of the worst experiences in home repair I've every had. I was traveling when the spring broke on the garage at home. I had used ***'s in the past and was happy with the service so my wife called them. They excessively overcharged us for the repair taking advantage of an emergent situation. Additionally and MORE IMPORTANTLY, THEY SIGNED US UP FOR THE "WORRY FREE GUARANTEE" UNBEKNOWNST TO US and didn't provide any information regarding what this program even encompasses. We would never have signed up for such a program. They have been automatically withdrawing funds ($8.95/mo) from my account for 10 months, and because it is a debit card the only way to stop payment from my banks is to shut the account down and re-open a new account. I have called them 3 times and have been told that the person I need to talk to is out, and will call me back with 3 business days. Nobody has contacted me. They are actively stealing money from my account with few options as a consumer to protect myself.Don's Garage Doors Response

Our garage door was serviced on October 19. The fact that we paid too much for the spring and roller placement can be attributed to the fact that we are just gullible senior citizens. However, we were not given a receipt and, when we requested an email copy, we found that we had been signed up and charged for the *************** at a cost of more than $150. We were told of this Club, but declined to join. We have been trying to get the promised refund of this charge for several weeks. Weve been told that the refund has been processed, but theres no evidence of that. Our initial trust in this company seems to have been misplaced.Don's Garage Doors Response

Do not use this company. They quoted my elderly parent $5000 to fix her garage door. The technician said she needed to replace everything. A competitor was called for a second opinion. $125 later she has a fully functioning garage door. Dons garage doors is not to be trusted!Review from Justin H

I urge caution, DO NOT PURCHASE THEIR WORRY FREE GUARANTEE - it's a SCAM. One of the things they "guarantee" is 24 hour booking - it's not true. When I needed them most, b/c it turns out the work they did on my garage actually caused the issue, they booked me 2.5 days later and to add insult to injury, I had to find another garage door repair place to fix my garage (which wouldn't close) and had to pay the emergency fee for them to show up. Then, when they were supposed to come back btw an 8-1pm window, they didn't call me until 1:05pm and the technician was still 25min out. This is terribly disappointing, and something I will report to the BBB - I never fill out these reviews b/c it's not worth my time, but when given multiple chances to make things right and they don't, that's a problem. I'd caution the other positive reviews b/c I read the same and was tricked...but specifically their "Worry Free Guarantee" program is a SCAM (I should've known better but hopefully this will deter anyone else from buying it). And again, the only reason I'm writing a review is that when given the chance to make this right, I was put on hold and told I couldn't get the entire amount back.Review from Matthew E

We called Dons because the spring on our garage door broke. The technician advised that not only does the spring need replaced but he recommended that both cables, both drums, both bearing end plates, and the center bearing be replaced. I had no reason not to believe him and agreed authorized the repairs. After the tech left and I reviewed the invoice, I decided to compare the parts charges on my invoice to ********** published prices . It appears ***'s charged between 6X and 11X the ********** price. Specifically,1) 8FT cable pair - $168.83 ***** charged compared to $17.96 at **********.that is over 9X 2) Standard Drum pair - $137.85 ***** charged compared to $11.52 at **********that is over 11X 3) Bearing end plate pair - $153.34 ***'s charged compared to $20.46 at ********** that is over 7X 4) Center Bearing - $77.46 ***'s charged compared to $12.99 that is 6X I am not sure if all of these items needed to be replaced, but I agreed to have them replace based on the tech recommendation. However, I had no idea that the markup of the parts would be between 600% and 1100%.The above was in addition to the $165 an hour labor rate, $39 trip charge and $48.49 shop supply charge I emailed the company the same day asking for an explanation on the large markup and have not heard from them (that was 12 days ago)
