I bought a truck from Harper Motors on 4-16-22. I paid the tax and license fee through **********************. On the contract it shows 4,878.64$ sales tax, 551$ vehicle license fees, 407$ Registration/Transfer/Titling fees. Harper Motor sent me a letter saying they over paid *** fees by 142$ and sent the money to my lender. I didnt think much about it because its happened on other vehicles Ive bought. The truck had Harper Motor plastic plates on it when I test drove it and bought it. I received the new plates/stickers in the mail aprox. 3wks. later. I received a notice this month for 913$ reg. renewal due by 10/31/22. Which seemed strange because I bought it in April. I looked at the *** Registration card in the truck, it states 10/31/21 TO 10/31/22. I went to ***************** on 8/31/22 to ask them why am I paying registration already? I purchased the truck in April. They said the truck had already been registered in ********** so they go off that date. I told them I paid 816$ in April. She called *** headquarters and they told her the truck registration was expired and had back fees the dealership didnt pay. So I called the dealership and talked to them. They said it wasnt their problem. I told him they did not disclose that the truck had expired registration and I had to pay their delinquent fees to bring it up to date. I also told him why would I pay registration from Oct 2021 to April 2022 when I didnt own the truck and they did. He said they do it all the time. I told him that is fraud to not disclose to a customer that they are paying the dealerships late fees. He told me thats the way it is and they are not going to do anything about it. I told him that is very dishonest to not disclose hidden fees to the consumer who is trusting you to he honest. I bought the truck in April, not October for financial reasons of other reg. due throughout the year. Now, due to their dishonesty my family is faced with a financial hardship in October.

    Business response

    09/01/2022

April 14th 2022 we charged ***************************** an estimated amount to register his truck through October 31st 2022. May 17th 2022 we issued a check to his lienholder for the over payment of $142 and a letter explaining why we sent a refund. This letter explained his current registration will expire October of 2022. We are allowed to charge an estimated amount for dmv fees on used vehicles. If there are any overcharges we always issue a refund. However since ***** is not satisfied with paying a whole year registration and only getting half a year of use we are going to send him another refund check for $408 to help him out.
