            The Department of Justice v Fitness International LLC DBA LA Fitness

            The following describes a pending government action that has been formally brought by a government agency but has not yet been resolved. We are providing a summary of the governments allegations, which have not yet been proven.

            On October 8, 2024, the Department of Justice filed a Complaint against Fitness International LLC DBA LA Fitness. Charges filed allege the business is in violation of federal law prohibiting discrimination against people with disabilities by denying the opportunity for disabled people to participate in or benefit from a good, service, facility, privilege, or accommodation, denying individuals or group of individuals on the basis of disability, failed to remove architectural barriers in facilities where such removal is readily achievable, failed to ensure that facilities designed and constructed for occupancy are readily accessible and usable by individual with disabilities, failed to maintain operable equipment and facilities that are required to be readily accessible and used by individuals with disabilities, imposed a surcharge on individuals with disabilities, and engaged in a pattern or practice of discrimination against individuals on the basis of disability.       

            In response to these charges, the business provided the following statement:
            The Company cannot comment on pending litigation and does not know what caused the Government’s inquiry. The Company has a long-standing commitment to ensure all members can access and use our facilities and does not agree with the Government’s claims. The Company is always evaluating ways to better its offerings to members, including those related to resolving reports of accessibility problems. To the extent any member has concerns, we welcome them to contact their local club manager or the Company’s management at Contact@fitnessintl.com.
