    I came here with a gift card on December 13 2022. Once we had our meal and it was time to pay, the server saw our gift card and said “that's not going to work, we have new owners and a new system so you will have to pay another way“. My husband paid with a credit card and still tipped $10 in cash because the owner having illegal and immoral business practices is not the server's fault. I asked if the owner was here and the server said yes, but came back a moment later and said they aren't here, the owner went to their other business down the street  (the candy shop with no name at 571 Embarcadero). I was told I could go there to talk to the owner. I told the server it is a $35 gift card so he should deduct $35 from our bill (our total bill was over $40) and he said he can't, there isn't anyone to enter a code. I immediately walked to the candy store but it was empty and closed. I sent a message to the business telling them what happened and their only reply so far was one sentence: "we are sorry for the inconvenience“. Zero effort to correct this. By the way, I did give my gift card to the server to keep, so it's not like I still have this gift card in my possession to try to redeem later. At this point there is no reason for this incident to have happened like this except a desire to scam people out of their gift certificates. Later I got another reply from the business that included lies like "the server asked you how much was on the card and you didn't know". They claim they can't verify the amount of the card so there is nothing they could do. I suggested even comping part of the meal to make up for the problem but they won't even reply. They will do nothing except say that I need to find a receipt from the person who gifted me the card. Who knows if this is possible but it is not likely. This is just another way to cheat the customer, because this is impossible. This is clearly a scam to get the customer to pay for a meal that was already paid on a gift card
