The contractor **** agreed to fix my roof for $15,000/-, replacing flat roof on two rooms and replacing tar paper under the tiles. He gave. me an estimate, I did not understand or agree to pay the amount he was asking. In a phone conversation, I asked him if he can replace the flat roof on two rooms and tar paper under the tiles, he agreed. I texted him the same, to make sure I understood correctly what we agreed on, he said yes, and started work on 4/10/'23. He never brought up the issue of signing a Contract, but asked for half the money before starting the work, and I paid him $5,000/-. On 4/12/'23, ****'s guy was working on the roof. I asked him if the roof is going to leak, it may rain. He said no, but forgot to cover the drain, it rained, water started pouring into one bedroom. I spent whole night, emptying the buckets of water, flooding the room, destroying flooring and furniture. I sent many messages to ****, didn't get response, finally he said he was working on another roof, won't fix the leak that night. He came the next day after 9am, I was at work, used whole bunch of heaters, fans, the power got shut off too. He also told me, that he will not replace the tar paper, unless I pay more, said he never agreed to that price. I understood that this was his plan all along, he knew that I live alone in my home, there is no male around. .He planned to start work and then bully me to pay more. That is why he never mentioned signing a Contract. The only Contract I have is the text message I sent, and he texted me back agreeing to it. Please help me resolve this. I can't find anyone to fix someone's mess. He should finish the job as agreed, and compensate for damaging floor and furniture. His estimate is not a Contract, I never agreed to pay $15,000 for half the job. This is highly deceitful. It is a matter of principle, not to let anyone deceive me. I would truly appreciate your help to resolve this before it rains again.Thank you.
