There are no words to explain how rude the man is that answers the phone. His emails are nonsense and he has been impossible to work with. I give the door itself 5 stars. I give that man zero stars.

Ok, here's the deal. If the door isn't opening and yours is years old, there's a good chance the motor needs replacing, not the electronics box. You can measure to check if 110v AC is being sent to the motor by the box when the door is triggered to open. So assuming you need a motor, here's the info you need - This was a 1-man company, and for years, he was a crotchety old man who was more likely to hang up on you than help you with supporting his product. But most recently (September 2024) he seems to be losing his mind completely, so don't count on further support, unless a miracle happens. I ordered a motor through the website, three times he denied having received the order and hung up on me, I had the credit card charge reversed and ordered the motor from its manufacturer which you're not supposed to be able to do because it's patented, but the manufacturer is also now aware of the situation. In order to make the new motor work with this dog door, you might need to cut the tensioning spring on one of the shafts with dikes and add extra black automotove 'moly' grease to all bearings, which means a tricky disassembly and re-assembly, unless you can get the manufacturer to agree to change their manufacturing process to include those modifications that he owner used to do on receiving the motors before shipping them out to his customers. The mods are needed to enable the weight of the door to turn the motor backwards once the power is cut so that the door will close. If you need magnets, I recommend using the cylindrical neodymium magnets (~3/4" length) from Amazon, taping them to the dog's collar with electrical tape and then some cloth gaffer's tape. Make sure they're all pointed the same polarity direction. Good luck - nice product, just hard to get support for.

I havent been treated this rudely from any business in years. I simply called to get some trouble shooting advice and to figure out what parts to replace if needed. The gentleman was impatient and unwilling to let me explain the problem. Instead he kept talking over me and ultimately said he could not help me unless I was home in front of their product. I was trying to tell him I was at home in front of the pet door and he hung up on me. No rude comments or name calling on my part but I was treated horribly poor.

We purchased a door for over $1000. It worked for 18 months and a small spring broke. It's probably a ************* spring and he wanted to sell me a $160 rebuild kit with the motor and all parts. He claimed we had talked before (not the case, the spring broke the day before) and got irritated and hung up. He will not respond to e-mails or calls. I can't pay $160 everytime a part breaks. We will need to switch brands and start with a new door. A real disappointment and very expensive mistake.

I purchased a door ~10 years ago. Last year the door began to malfunction. On Dec. 31st, I ordered a replacement electronics box. I replaced the electronics box but nothing happened. I called Solo Pet Doors multiple times & spent 45 min to 2 hours trying to get help. The man was unable/unwilling to help. I asked to face time him and he changed the topic. While explaining how I had wired it he kept interrupting saying it was too difficult. He accused me of burning up the new box. I wired the box according to the instructions he sent. After multiple calls and days of trying to get the door to work and not getting help I decided to put in the old box because it still worked though not very well. I asked Solo Pet Doors for a refund and he asked me what he would do with an electronics box that did not work. I told him that is how I felt. Why should I get stuck with a bad box. A short while later the door stopped working. I ordered a new door because Solo was unable/ unwilling to help me with the bad box they sent. I received my new door & it also did not work. I told Solo the door was going up but would not go down. I realized the door was hitting the pulley wheel and Solo said "someone must have stepped on it & bent the L bracket". The shipping box is intact. Whatever happened to the bracket, happened before it was put into the box. I was able to bend back the bracket enough to allow the door to work. They have a good product, at least the door I purchased, model 1008. I have written and called Solo several times & requested a refund. Solo hasn't responded. It seems Solo cannot take ownership of their problems. The bent bracket "someone must have stopped on it" & the electronics box "you must have burned it up". They asked me to bend back the bracket instead of offering to fix it themselves. Customer service is absolutely horrible and it's almost not worth buying a door from Solo Pet Doors given the very poor customer service and their attitude.

I rarely leave reviews but I feel compelled to save someone else the expense and frustration that I have experienced. I was somewhat reluctant to pay that much for a dog door but figured it would pay off in the long run. I ran into problems trying to adjust the sensitivity and called for customer support. It was absolutely the worst experience I have ever had with any customer support anywhere! The guy was so rude, 'man-splained' clockwise and counterclockwise to me and basically told me I was the only one who had problems with this. The adjustment is so tiny it's hard to see and the adjustments have to be precisely minimal. I spent hours on this and just when I thought I had it figured out, it either wouldn't open when it was supposed to or I heard it go up and down spontaneously in the middle of the night. I hired a handyman to reframe the big hole and put in a good old-fashioned flapper door. What a waste of money and time. If you have an inferior product you should at least hire someone that is courteous with your customers when they have problems.
