Never would I have imagined I would be discriminated against so horrifically by a gym manager. I got a complaint from the gym manager, saying I was slamming weight at the gym which is strange because every time Ive gone to the gym for months Ive heard plenty of people right next to me slamming their weights with no repercussion and Ive never seen the club manager approach anyone and lecture them not to drop their weights. Today was a different story. Unfortunately, he approached me and started yelling in my face saying if you do it again, I am going to kick your a** out of this gym. He accused me of dropping weights a week prior and how someone snitched on me, and when he gave me a description of what I was supposedly wearing, it was completely off to what my clothing was because Ive never worn the clothes that he was referencing. He continued raising his voice and screaming at me as I told him to lower his voice, and to have some respect when I was being calm and said you either stop dropping weight or Im going to cancel your membership and kick your a** out. I felt so discriminated as a person of color and a Palestinian at that and Ive seen plenty of other guests who have dropped all kinds of weights, and he never said a word. I felt so violated and singled out, and I did truly feel profiled that this man had the audacity to cuss me out in front of a full house of gym members, and throughout my entire time at that gym, I have never seen him get in anyones face or raise his voice to the extent that he did to me today. I felt it was definitely racially motivated in a gym that predominantly has white guests. I have always been respectful, kind and courteous, and always put all of my equipment away and to be treated as though I wore a child in the manner that he did was absolutely unacceptable and truly disgusting.
