Greetings,I posted our challenge on Nextdoor someone suggested I reach out to you. I have been holding off because I never want to speak ill of anyone trying to do business but I don't want anyone else to get stung by this company. We are fairly new to ********. In June we bought our place and have finally settled in. Part of the repairs that we needed to do was replace our roof. We have a fairly large roof so the cost of replacing the roof was fairly high. We got a recommendation from the realtor who owned and sold us the place. We had the roofing replaced, and paid the contractor over $15,000. In December, 2 days before Christmas, we were informed that a lien was being placed on our home for over 11K. The roofing contractor never paid ******************* We made the mistake of trusting our realtor and the contractor. I have given the contractor ample time to take care of this and make it right. He claims he has no money yet he's driving around in a 100K truck. Neither the realtor or the roofing supply company has ever had a problem with the contractor before so I guess we are special. We are senior citizens on a fixed income. My husband is disabled so all our income depends on me and his disability. Because the lien has ruined our credit we can't even get a loan to pay the supplier (nor should we). An attorney we consulted said there was really nothing we could do. Contractors in ******** do not need a bond to do business so we can't even go after his bond. Just feeling very betrayed and sad that ******** can't do more for people like us but protect dishonest contractors. ****** learned, never pay a contractor until you are sure the supplier has been paid. Can you share this story so no-one else gets stung? We also have damage on our ceiling from a leak due to leaving the roof uncovered below the swamp cooler from rain damage.
