I hired *** to work on a full basement remodel to include installing new plumbing for a bathroom addition. Don't expect his work to be permitted and inspected by the county, he will not do this. I insisted on having his work permitted and inspected. ****** did because I failed multiple inspections and had to have him redo his work to meet basic residential building code. He either wasn't familiar with the code or choose to ignore it. Framing of our basement and soffit was not square. I had him install a shower pan but had to rip it our since it did not meet code and he did not install a rubber lining. The toilet ****** was imbedded in the concrete and at a 35 degree angle instead of flush and level with the basement floor. He did not use mold resistant drywall in the shower and fought with me about waterproofing the entire shower. The expectation was that all work meet code, which was not the case and I had to come and fix these issues. His estimates and whatever program he used to create quotes for us where wrong. Any deviation of more than $500 was to be discussed and agreed upon, which never was and he would just send an updated estimate with a higher cost associated. In the course of his renovation, he damaged our washer and dryer by standing on them when installing insulation. I paid for trash removal which wasn't removed and he ended up dumping torn out concrete in my yard. None of his quotes/estimates where itemized as requested. After multiple requests to discuss these issues and resolved his shoddy craftsmanship he quit on us, and his response was that he did not "feel like I need to justify any of the charges on your basement." So after doing a generally bad job, being called out on it and overcharging he just quit. Luckily, I was able to complete the rest of the renovation since I have some skill in the trades. I would hate to imagine if I did not. If you need a light bulb changed or handy man work that doesn't require a permit, sure *** can do it.
