Quick response to service request to a rental property. Unfortunately, the tech did not call property owner while at the rental property. So, the service was incomplete and expensive for what service was given. The response of the company controller when I complained that the tech had not called me to discuss his assessment and approval to proceed or not, I was offered a discount on a future estimate to replace furnace. Not interested. I want to work with businesses that value timely, in-person or by phone communication.

UPDATE: I have a rental with an old furnace (1992 Amana) that uses a standing pilot with a thermocouple. I requested service and reported the pilot light that would not stay lit. Tradewinds efficiently sent a technician within hours. However, he apparently did not know that a furnace with a standing pilot that won't stay lit generally needs a new thermocouple. He did not replace the thermocouple, a part that costs about $15. The tech reported he cleaned the furnace, relit the pilot, and tested it. I requested the thermocouple be replaced, but because the tech did not call me as I requested, he did not get the communication that I wanted the thermocouple replaced. The charge for that service was $300 ($75 trip fee + $225 for the diagnostic, cleaning, and relighting the pilot light).Within hours, the pilot went out again. The next day, the company owner came out, checked the furnace and right away found a loose connection due to stripped threads, which occurred during the previous day's service. He replaced that section and secured it. He also took apart other sections and discovered a lot of built up of white soot creating a blockage. The amount of build up indicated the previous day's 'cleaning' was cursory and incomplete. The owner did more cleaning and replaced the thermocouple. The furnace was working again!I asked the owner what the tech the previous day could possibly have cleaned and done to justify $225. He said he didn't know.A few hours later, the tenant returned and immediately detected the strong scent of natural gas. I called **** and had the tenant vacate for safety. The Xcel technician found a gas leak caused by a connection that had not been properly tightened.I contacted Tradewinds to report the gas leak and suggested they not charge me for the second trip and requested a refund for the first trip. The response was that they would consider a discount, which would be processed that day. In a very timely manner, I received a $50 refund and was not charged for the second service trip. I am very pleased the problem is solved and the stress of no heat and a gas leak is behind us.

Tradewinds business is a subsidiary of American Home Shield warranty company, and has done everything to not replace a broken heating/cooling system at our condo. It was determined back in mid-August that the unit needed to be replaced, but seven weeks later still no determination of the unit that will be used to replace from AHS and/or Tradewinds. But somehow Tradewinds has sent us a bill for $5,200 to install the new unit. Although our contract with AHS states electrical is included, Tradewinds needs $1,500 for electrical work. Then another $1,700 to modify the unit stand, to hold the unidentified HVAC unit for installation on the roof. Although there is already a stand on the roof already. This condo unit is a rental and based on our responsibility to the tenants not providing an appliance may be a breach in the ************** tenant rights. Working with AHS and Tradewinds to honor a contract for a home warranty has been a very unpleasant experience. Our tenants have been extremely reasonable while not having air conditioning multiple times when it was needed, but we have concerns that when the unit does not provide heating they may not be a reasonable. This issue may end up in court if our tenants break their one year lease.

I do apologize for the delay. When working with American Home Shield, the process can be somewhat difficult to get a solution quickly. Your unit is a unique unit and is in a difficult position on the roof to replace. The costs are higher because of that. I do apologize that AHS doesn't cover more. I have reached out multiple times to AHS and we are still awaiting a response from them on supplying the unit. I will continue to try and work with them for you. We appreciate your patience. If you'd like a second opinion through
AHS we can have them transfer the ticket to another vendor. Thank you for your feedback and I'II be in touch once this has been sorted out with AHS.
