In September 2021 we met with Joe U****** of Archery Painting and hired him to paint our condo in ******** *******, ********** ** while we were away for the winter. We had already painted several closets using a white paint from **** ***** and wanted the rest of the condo painted the same color. We showed him the can that we had used and offered to give him the can. Instead, he wrote down some information and said he stated he never sprays paint. On Jan. 29, 2022, we send him a deposit for $1725 and a set of keys for entry. We arrived the evening of April 14 and met him in the parking area. He returned the keys and we paid him the balance of $1450. When we entered our condo, we immediately saw it was painted yellow (including ceilings), not the white of our closet. We called him and he returned to our condo, and he offered to repaint it. The next day he reneged on repainting and refused to give us any refund. Besides, we realized it was the worst paint job we had ever seen with paint on windows, floors, hardware, far inside vents clogging them (even though he insisted he hadn’t sprayed), and damage to personal items inside closets. He missed some areas altogether. He left us with a can of the paint he used, a cheap paint for industrial use accounting for the rough texture of the walls. We are in the process of repainting the condo ourselves since we do not have the money to afford another painter. When finished, we will have spent approximately $1,500 on material (paint + replacing hardware, vents, personal property) not to mention the time and aggravation that this experience has caused. We feel that Joe U****** took advantage of two senior citizens.

    Business response

    06/02/2022

    To Whom it May Concern,

I was hired to paint the condo in ******** ******* in September of 2021.  I meet with **** to go over the painting job.  She gave me a color “cameo white” but I never say the can.  I have been in business over ten years and know different manufactures colors vary widely, so if I knew the color was a **** ***** color, I would have made a note.  I have match hundreds of colors over the last the years and never got a color match wrong.  I only say the can after to job was completed. I told her the color was cameo white and her husband went to the garage to find the can, came back and stated I was right.  The color was cameo white.  Further, she stated the there was a tremendous amount of paint all over the window metal, door handles, hinges, etc.  I told her I would clean as much paint as I can.  She stated that what ever I was not able to remove, she would take care of it.

**** insisted that I used a sprayer on her job, but I did not!  As a matter of fact, I do not use a sprayer.  One of her pictures (559) shows a micro roller in the can!  If I spayed, why would have a roller??

Even though there may have been miscommunication on the exact color, after a long discussion, I told her I would re-paint the entire condo (labor, paint and materials) for no charge.  I did ask here to at least pay for paint, but she refused.  A day later, she called me to tell me I was not longer welcomed in the condo and they will repaint themselves.  Since I offered to repaint at no cost which they accepted and then reneged on, I do not think a refund plus additional charges are warranted.

I am not taking advantage of senior citizens, since 85% of my business is dealing with clients over 65 and have not had any complaints.

As for her images, my reply is as follows:
558/559 shows the paint I used with a roller
4340 bottom of bricks which is a small touch up
4343-4354 are old paint I was unable to remove, except the thumb print on one door handle, which was mine and I would have easily cleaned as a touch up.
4356 paint on microware not mine. Different color!
4357-4358  sticky tape on  window vinyl for plastic winterizing, plus silicon caulk which paint will not stick too.
4360  no idea what issue is?
4365-4366 paint on hinge. Not mine…way too much paint to clean. Not to mention if I did paint that poorly, I would be out of business.
4370 I removed all light covers, so not my paint.
4371  inside closet…I did not paint inside closets…so not my paint
4374  light in bathroom … taped…could not remove old paint
4385  Old window paint I could not remove
4389  metal vent in closet…not my paint..too much to remove
4390-4399/4401-4404  I did not paint front door…old paint could not remove!
4409  Some kind of cloth with black mold…no clue
    4412  Waste paper basket…no clue
4417-4419  Floor grate had paint underneath…from old paint job…I covered vent
4439  Wall and closet?  Not sure what issue is
4440  Front door again..I did not paint and was unable to clean old paint off door
