            We entered into a contract with Smith Remodeling to complete a large-scale renovation. They represented themselves in their advertising as fully certified, insured, professional company. We had several issues with them later in the project that involved leaking pipes behind newly installed bathroom vanity and a new wood flooring that was installed with no leveling of subfloor which resulted in a floor that requires removal and replacement. This was confirmed from a certified, independent flooring inspector. They also failed to lay the boards in a random pattern which looked terrible. The owner of the company, Lisa S., led me to believe that she was filing a claim with her insurance company to fix the problem. This went on for months resulting in nothing and finally they cut off any interactions with me and said her attorney would handle going forward. Nothing occurred again and we were forced to get our own attorney to handle the matter. Our attorney sent them a formal letter siting the issues we had and associated FL statutes and a date for response. After numerous interactions between the attorneys, his response to our attorney was that something was coming that week for our consideration. That was 3 weeks ago and we have decided that they are just jerking us around and have no intention to resolve this situation. We are left with a replacement bathroom vanity in our garage and 1700 sf of wood flooring that must be removed and replaced. We also found after the fact that Smith was having another company pulling their permits for them and that they do not hold a contractor license. I have reported that to Manatee County for their investigation, I have many documents, contract, pictures, emails, etc. to support this case. I'm not sure what would be helpful at this time.
