We went to see Mike ****** for our taxes. I am employed and my husband is a eye if employed. He only works for himself there are no other employees and his expenses are minimal. I added up all the expenses and categorized them. We meet with Mike with the thought he would be charging a usual fee of $150. Mike did not tell us that there may be more charges to his service if he would have we would not have had him do our taxes. Mike asked for some additional items which was given in an email. He kept sending additional emails with further questions. Again no mention all these emails would be at a charge. Upon him finishing the taxes he sent a bill for $679 I was very upset and my anxiety has been through the roof since then. When I called him about this he never said he was in the wrong but not explaining how he bills he said he could go down to $550 this is still high our taxes were not that difficult nor did he explain his billing. This was his fault considering there was no mention he could charge more if so we would not be in this situation. I would like to admit this was his fault I'm not explaining and have us pay the flat fee of $159. I also had to make a doctors apt for Monday due to the anxiety and stress this caused. By being in a busy the business should always be upfront about there costs my husband and I were did nothing wrong he should have been upfront and also asked us for everything he needed one time. He should admit he was wrong and do the right thing by charging us the $150

    Business response

    04/18/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/04/12) */ The last email that I rec'd from the individual was that she was going to send a check, and she requested that we return her paperwork Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/04/12) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Sending a check for the $150!that I feel would be the correct amount. I sent this in to make sure we would not owe any more than this as I do not feel paying over $150!would be correct since he did not explain that we would owe more then this when we first spoke with him at his office. A business I feel needs to take ownership for there mistakes. I am only willing to send the $150 I owe but need him to agree that he will not bill more than this then I will send the check. Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2022/04/13) */ We never discussed the fee, and if they asked for a quote, to prepare Form 1040, with Schedule C for the business, it would be greater than the $150 that she alludes to. Consumer Response /* (4200, 11, 2022/04/13) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) You just admitted you were not up front this should have been discussed prior to you doing taxes! We spoke about the $150 you never said it would be more! I would have walked out if it would have been higher! My anxiety is through the roof and I can't believe a business person like you would not accept your responsibility in this matter you should have had a discussion upfront with first time clients! We have never in all our years have someone charge that much that is not fair to the customers!! I did all the itemization and added up all his expenses. He also does not have any employees. I will not pay that high of a fee. I have talked to different accounts on this issue and they have all agreed Mike should have discussed his charge of time like an attorney would bill! As a business owner owned up to the fact you did not say you bill for time and not a one time fee and eat your mistake. That fee you charged is outrageous! If the bill by hour fee was discussed at the first apt and I accepted that I would have paid but I would never had you do out taxes if it was per your hourly time if which you kept going back to us with questions I didn't you should have asked all your questions and explained the billing properly. I will not pay anything over $150 please be a good person and admit your mistake in the whole matter. I have not slept and I have saw my doctor on Monday with all this anxiety you have caused this is very hurtful and truly upsetting!
