I tried to pay with a personal check today at my local grocery store (same checking acct I've had for YEARS, and same grocery store I've shopped at for 25+ YEARS, and that I shop at weekly or even several times a week). Check was declined by Certegy, even though I have money to cover the check in my acct. I contacted ********************** and was told that their decision to accept or decline my check had to do with "risk factors", though they wouldn't tell me what those were. They asked for my checking routing and acct numbers, which I gave them. However, they are "not allowed" to call my bank to verify funds. They offered to send me a report which would include the past 48 months of ALL transactions done thru my bank acct, though asked for my social security number to do so. I declined to give them my social security number and asked them to mail me any/all information they had about why my check was declined TODAY, informing them my bank already has my transactions listed for the past 48 months, asked why I'd need to get it from them? This company is not doing their customers (businesses) any favors. I'd bet they're ticking off more good people with money in their accts, than the number of losses they're proclaiming to save their clients. Not sure if I'll continue to shop the grocery store. If I take my business elsewhere, will definitely let the manager and corporate know why.Certegy Payment Solutions, LLC Response

Certegy Payment Solutions, LLC (Certegy) is a specialty consumer reporting agency that provides subscribing merchants with recommendations for payment acceptance at their request. To protect both consumers and retailers against losses from fraudulent or returned checks or Automated Clearing House transactions (collectively, Payments), in addition to maintaining a file of unpaid returned Payments, Certegy has developed an automated system that predicts the likelihood of these outcomes in connection with a particular Payment. Payment authorization is not an extension of credit. Since most merchants do not verify whether funds are available prior to cashing a check or accepting one as a form of payment, they may use our system to analyze the transaction for potential risk factors including, but not limited to, location, check writing and cashing history, check number, and amount. Our response provides the merchant with a recommendation as to whether or not the Payment is likely to be returned. It is then up to the merchant to determine whether they wish to take the risk of accepting the Payment. This service enables many of our clients to continue to offer Payments and check cashing options that might not otherwise be available without protection from exposure to potential losses.

My personal check writen to ********* grocery store was denied on the 12th of January 2025. When I enquired about the reason why, after receiving the customer disclosure letter, I was told on the phone, by a Certegy representative that, she had no idea except that the check didn't meet the appropriate standards. I'd shopped at this particular store for years and have written checks with no problems. But, now they have no information in my file that will explain why my check was denied! I had to use another form of payment which was embarrassing and put a financial inconvenience on my other form of payment..thus, why I was using a check..dah. I suppose I'll never know why my check was denied..perhaps it was my penmanship that didn't meet approved standards...ya think!Certegy Payment Solutions, LLC Response

This Company is discriminating, and fraudulate using AI to do illegal background checks on people with out concent who are writing checks. They get there banking information and put in their system or computer AI model and say if a person is a risk or not with out asking the consumer. How does a non credit bureau have a file on me? This is not right nor legal I suspect. It needs to be looked into by someone. The responses from Certegy I have seen are the same response. How are they getting away with this and yet these stores and this company will accept my credit and debt but not checks this is fishy and smells like a scam. I have talked to my bank at **** and *********** and there is nothing wrong with my credit nor are there any red flags on my name or accounts so again, I ask, how do they have a file and say I am a risk and that I do not meet their requirements when they are not a credit bureau?Certegy Payment Solutions, LLC Response

A merchant made a mistake entering our check & ended up submitting the same check# twice. Certegy declined our check. I was unaware of this until I went to balance our account. I contacted them after speaking with the merchant. They said they would investigate. Received a letter that was very confusing. Attempted to get clarification. You can't talk to anybody. Managed to finally leave a message that was returned 48 hours later. The only thing the rep seemed to be able to do was read from the letter. My husband tried to get clarification, but she just kept reading from the letter. Left one more message to give them one last chance to provide the information we need.I assume this review will trigger Certegy's template response that others have received. Would be interesting to see if that allows one to actually speak to a thinking human being.Certegy Payment Solutions, LLC Response

Can I put even less stars? My identity was stolen about 6 months ago and several accounts were opened with my information. Apparently, 3 checks were returned and Certegy sent me information via mail regarding the returns. After calling customer service to remedy the situation, they asked for identifying information (drivers license number and bank account information routing and account number). Who in their right mind would willingly hand over that sort of information, especially after identity theft. After going rounds with customer service they basically told me that Im out of luck there is nothing they can do to help me. How do I get this negative information off my credit report if they cant help me WITHOUT sensitive information?Certegy Payment Solutions, LLC Response

Very difficult to speak to a human here and when you finally get to speak to a human they speak in scripted terms that have no meaning. This company has also had data breeches before and sent me letters offering free credit monitoring. They want me to leave the fox in charge of the henhouse . Avoid this company . Avoid doing business with companies that use this company. This company was recently purchased to change their name and reputation as well. Shady!!!!!Certegy Payment Solutions, LLC Response

Went to two different Walmarts to cash a government check. They aren't told what the error is just that I need to call the number on the bottom of the receipt to rectify the situation. I called the number multiple times and never got to speak to an actual person. Given only three options I still could not cash my check. All information was correct on my behalf (SSN and phone number) and I provided my ID (which is valid). When calling Certegy I am only told that it's an error that "usually" only happens once and to try the process over or to try and get my file info which takes 15 days to receive. I was able to get both employees to at least try running it two times. Times are already hard if I could at least speak to someone then maybe it's some troubleshooting that could've been done.Certegy Payment Solutions, LLC Response
