I brought Wefings my 2016 Mercury outboard motor for a gas cap and tune-up+ about the middle of February. I could get it running in the driveway but not consistency. We specifically talked about me receiving an estimate upfront as I didn't want to break the bank for this little motor. During March I called at least three times looking for an update - always informed the mechanics hadn't been able to look at it yet as they had bigger jobs ahead of mine. Then in mid-April I receive a call, needing to order a special part do I ok it? Over the phone he told me the price was about $110, I approved him ordering it. Still no estimate on the overall cost but talking with Christian didn't sound like it was going to be a big deal. End of April I get a bill for $890, the parts alone cost what I paid for the motor brand new (no major parts hoses, gas cap, carb repair kit (not a new carb) No estimate, a bill if I want my outboard back I have to pay for this unauthorized bill. I 100% believe they know it's cheaper/smarter for me to go buy a brand new outboard leaving them with a great little motor for free.

These are the notes our service manager took regarding this customer.  I am Marc the owner of Wefings and would be willing to discuss with a reasonable, rational customer. If not, he is encouraged to pick up his motor and find someone else to be mad at. The motor was neglected [no gas cap with a rubber glove for a cap] and unused for a couple years according to customer. The issues were self inflicted . He approved everything we did .

04/17/2023-I  talked with Mr. ******* and explained that his engine had an intermittent non-starting issue-it is related to a failing Ignighter Part # 898103T58. The part is no longer available through Mercury. I told him that I found one from a different vender for 143.25 but wasn't sure what the shipping would be. Customer gave me the verbal go ahead to order the part.
04/18/2023-Shipping on the part=31.00. Total part at our cost =174.25. I'm giving the part to the customer at that price which is Mercury's msrp.

I returned the customer's call to discuss his bill, he told me I was a crook and that we were all crooks and that he would blast us on fb and wherever else he could. I told him politely that I didn't like being called a crook and that we could remove the parts that his engine required, and he could pick it up.
MARC SAID ASK THE CUSTOMER WHAT HE THINKS IS FAIR AND WHAT IS A FAIR RESOLUTION. :)
