- Additional Info:Our files contain a pattern of generally from consumers that allege Liberty Power is not forthcoming regarding the rate increase if a consumer wishes to discontinue service. Consumers allege they are misled to believe their accounts would move back to their state's energy supplier upon completion of the contract term; however consumers state they receive their finalized bill from Liberty Power with rates increased by as much as 50% - 75%. Consumers then reach out to Liberty Power Corp. LLC. at which point they are informed, due to the contract being expired and the service still being provided, they were charged a variable rate of which there was no mention of prior to cancellation of the contract.
Liberty Power responds to these generally by reaching out to the consumers explaining their terms and conditions so that they may reach an amicable decision.
On March 19, 2014 BBB sent correspondence to Liberty Power Corp., LLC requesting their voluntary cooperation in resolving generally on file with BBB and providing steps it will implement to eliminate the pattern of customer generally.
On May 27 Liberty Power Corp.,LLC responded to BBB's concerns stating the following "On the Terms and Conditions of Liberty Power's agreement is stated that at the end of the term the customer needs to contact Liberty Power in order to renew or cancel the agreement. Otherwise, the account would stay flowing on Liberty Power's Variable Rate on a month to month basis. It's customer's responsibility to request that the account is renewed or returned to the utility, we don't have authority to make those changes unless the customer requests it. The increase in the default variable rate was due to the extreme weather, and therefore market volatility the industry is experiencing."
