Contracted with this business in May, 2023 for concrete sidewalks on both sides of our residence. Paid $2000 deposit May 31 to reserve concrete. We were told the job would begin within 3 weeks. We called ********************* (A&R Quality Homes) on June 26 to check on permit progress. He said he was still waiting on the permit. When we checked the website for Permits, it showed the application for permit was submitted 6/26/2023, and the application was insufficient. We have called **** several times since then, leaving messages, and have not received a return call. We also sent an email which has not been answered. We are concerned that we have lost $2000 and still do not have sidewalks.

We contracted with ********************* of A&R Quality Homes to repair our driveway which included culvert pipe and concrete on Jan 9th, 2023 and made a deposit of $2500.00. We then signed a letter of commencement and had it notorized on Jan 12th. A new survey was needed in order to get a building permit so we had that done on Jan 27th. He applied for a building permit and said it would take a couple of weeks to get it and that he would do the work then. We were leaving for several months beginning the middle of April and he assured us he would get it done before we left. Each week he would tell us that something came up and that it was on the schedule for the following week. It was not done when we left in April but he said he had more help coming in a couple of weeks and that he could do the work while we were away and send us photos of each step of the repairs. We had not heard anything from him so in July I emailed him to ask that he schedule our work to be done - I did not get an answer to my email so I tried calling his cellphone and was told it was no longer in service. I called the office and got a different recording than the one before. This was a generic message of "hello please leave a message after the tone" which I did but got no answer. I tried several times to contact them through telephone and email. My last email was a request for them to return our $2500.00 deposit. I still have not heard from them and would very much like our deposit returned.

On Feb. 15, 2023 A&R Quality Homes was paid $1,350.00 (check #****) to pour concrete for a broken concrete walkway damaged from trees uprooting due to Hurricane ***. In addition, they were to build up and stabilize this area before pouring the concrete and to also build up, stabilize, and replace a keystone walkway leading up to the concrete walkway (also damaged by the hurricane). The problem became apparent after only one rainstorm when all of the build up substrate materials under the concrete walkway and the paver stones was washed away leaving the concrete suspended over a ****** of open air and all of the paver stones 8"-10" below the concrete walkway. The paver walkway and the concrete walkway are not safe to walk on. The company was contacted and a representative was scheduled to come out and look at the problem. The Representative NEVER showed up and no one from the company ever spoke OR contacted the home owner after that initial call. After the company Representative did not show up, I asked my son to contact them. My son called the company 7 times in 2 weeks and always left a message asking for a return call. No one from the company ever returned a single phone call.My wife and I are in our late 80's and this walkway allows us safe walking access to the south side of our house. It is unusable at this time.We would like the company to return and repack the substrate materials under the concrete and the pavers, reset the paver stones, and install a permanent type of edging on the outside edge of the concrete and paver stones (which they should have done initially) to prevent the substrate materials from washing away again. The existing paver walkway which was not damaged had the outer edge of the pavers placed in concrete which was reinforced with rebar. A&R Homes did not install any type of edge support to prevent the substrate from washing away or to keep the pavers from shifting. We contracted A&R to rebuild us a safe access to our south side.

We contracted with A&R Quality Homes on 3/12/2023 to install a cement slab and stucco fence in small area (6'x8'). The owner sent out a "cement man" to remove fence and clear area for slab. He dug into ground and nicked our cable line, cut through the irrigation wires and broke a water line pipe. He was in way over his head, he called the owner and asked for his help and owner never came out. We have paid out of pocket to have the water line fixed to stop water flowing, but as of this date 5/26 we still do not have our irrigation system repaired. We determined due to water lines, cable, irrigation wires that we would not be able to put cement slab in this area. The owner is very *** in returning calls, but we finally reached him. We said the man did about $300 worth of work and asked for a partial refund of our $1,000 deposit. The owner agreed that was reasonable. As of this date we have not received a refund of any monies. This owner does not communicate, does not return calls and is not taking responsibility for any errors/damage caused by his employees.

On 10/27/2021 we contracted for removal of 4 sections of cracked driveway and the pouring of a new concrete driveway. We paid $1500 down on 10/27/2021 to secure the contract. On or about December 17, 2021 the old driveway was removed and on December 20, 2021 the new driveway was started. The balance of $3600 was paid upon complete on December 22, 2021. In June 2022 we noted a crack in the new concrete on the driveway. We called the business who poured the driveway and on June 7, 2022 the business inspected the crack on the driveway and acknowledged it did exist and they would have their "concrete guy" come to take a look at the crack. Because no one had been out to see the driveway, on June 13, 2022, we called the business and left a message on voice mail with no reply. On June 14, 2022, we called, again, left a voice mail, and have had no reply. On June 15, 2022, we again telephoned the business, left a voice mail, and have had no reply. To date, no "concrete guy" has been here to look at the crack or offer how to repair the crack. Invoice # ******* dated 10/27/2021.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/06/18) */ Dear Mr. and Mrs. *******, I understand your frustration of calling the office and not being able to contact us. We were called out of town on a family emergency. As soon as we saw the message, we called you Friday evening. As per our conversation moving forward, we have discussed schedule with you to have us and our concrete gentleman meet with you at your home this week. Thank you. Consumer Response /* (2000, 7, 2022/06/28) */ (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.) On June 27, 2022, spoke with owner of A & R Quality Homes. At that time, he indicated that A & R would repair this crack, however, was unable to specify a date or time. I have chosen to take the owner at his word, in hopes that this repair will be completed in a timely manner. Therefore, a yes or no answer is difficult until the repairs are completed. Consumer Response /* (3000, 13, 2022/07/11) */ On June 27, 2022, we spoke with the owner of A & R Quality Homes, and he assured us that he was going to be to our home and repair the crack in the new (poured December 2021) driveway slab. We took him at his word. He said that he had been here with the "concrete guy" and we were not home. After review, our security camera differs with his statement. We have been unable to contact the owner of A & R Quality Homes. We would like to reopen this complaint until the work has been completed to our satisfaction. Business Response /* (4000, 16, 2022/07/23) */ We are sending the customer a letter via email. If he will allow us to come back out to re-access the situation. Hopefully together we can come to some mutual agreement to remedy the complaint. I will await the homeowner's response. Thank you. Consumer Response /* (3000, 28, 2022/08/19) */ After the "cement guy" tested the 2 cracks in the cement and indicted that repair would look worse than the cracks, we feel we are forced to accept his opinion or take A & R to court to replace 2 panels. It is obvious after 2 1/2 months A & R will not replace the 2 panels that have cracks. We are to receive a copy of the test, but to date, have not. BBB can close your portion of this complaint. Business Response /* (4000, 30, 2022/08/26) */ In response to the last correspondence received by Mr. and Mrs. *******. After we had a representative meet with the customers at their house to discuss the hairline crack and test the concrete. I personally called them the following morning to ask if they were satisfied with the meeting. I was told by Mr. Picket he was, and he requested a copy of the test results that were performed on the concrete. I was told that he was satisfied. At no time were they ever forced in to making any decisions. The *******'s have received the test results. Thank you.
