- Advertising Review:In January 2023, BBB contacted My Maids regarding claims in its advertising.
At its Pinterest page the business states it is an "A rated cleaning..." At its website and yelp.com listing it states it "is a licensed professional company who is fully insured and bonded." According to the BBB Code of Advertising, the primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptive advertising rests with the advertiser. Advertisers should be prepared to substantiate any objective claims or offers made before publication or broadcast. Upon request, they should present such substantiation promptly to the advertising medium or BBB. BBB requested that My Maids provide proof of any competency license required by the state of Florida for its business and identify what entity has assigned the business an A rating but did not receive a response.
Its website and yelp.com listing state "Our cleaning service also offers green cleaning that helps the environment and your family’s well-being at the same time. Green cleaning means that we will use only toxin-free cleaning supplies," "We use environmentally friendly cleaning supplies and cutting edge tools to remove more grime, dust, dirt and other allergens than other home cleaning practices," and "Using only environmentally-friendly products." Advertisers should not make broad, unqualified general environmental benefit claims like green or eco-friendly. Advertisers must possess competent and reliable evidence (often scientific evidence) to support all environmental benefit claims. Non-toxic claims likely convey that a product, package or service is non-toxic both for humans and for the environment generally. Advertisers must either possess competent and reliable scientific evidence that this is the case or clearly and conspicuously qualify the claim to avoid confusion. BBB requested that the business provide any testing that substantiates its claims but did not receive a response.
My Maids' Twitter and Facebook pages claim to "Keep COVID out. Stay Safe and healthy. $50 disinfectant fogging for your home or office." Claims relating to performance, energy savings, safety, efficacy or results for a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data. BBB requested that the business provide substantiation for this claim but did not receive a reply.
Its website offers a "SPRING CLEANING SPECIAL !!! 3 man hours cleaning service special for $155 for more details...." Such offers may be used in advertising only if there is a significant reduction from the advertiser's usual and customary price of the products or services offered and the sale is for a limited period of time. If the sale exceeds thirty (30) days, advertisers should be prepared to substantiate that the offering is indeed a valid price reduction and has not become their regular price. The business did not respond when BBB asked when this offer began and when it will end.
