    (Day 2) PLEASE read this before you make any large purchases with your GWCU credit cards!! We have been members of Gulf Winds Credit Union since it was Monsanto Employees Credit Union, just over 30 years and have had fairly good service until now. We used our Gulf Winds Credit Union credit cards on 07/31/24 to make two major purchases and paid both cards back off in full the very next day, 08/01/24. On 08/02/24, we were notified by our credit monitoring service that both our credit scores had dropped by 130 points and went from excellent to "fair" because we had gone from using 3% of our available credit to using 94% of our available credit. Spoke with 5 different employees all the way up to one of their VP's trying to get help rectifying this issue. In short, 5 different employees and 5 different explantions (excuses) of what they "can't do". Bottom line they tell me is, I just have to wait it out until they report to the credit bureau again. What if we needed to buy a car or house right now? I'm sure the interest rate would be much higher with "fair" credit instead of "excellent" credit. So, as I told the VP, I will ding their reviews every day for the same amount of days my credit is dinged. Be safe, monitor your credit and remember GWCU does "NOT" have your back.

    I have never had such a poor experience with a bank. I owed a fee and paid it and then the MSR found 3-4 more and had no idea what they were for or why I owed them. Rather than work with me, they froze my debit card until all the surprise fees were paid. I was given a price of $5 being owed but ended up paying over $200 to reinstate my debit card. This CU is a joke. And also, every pay day they pick and choose when to release my check. Some days it will be 1:00 PM and other times it’ll be as late as 11:59 PM. Every MSR I’ve spoken to about this always tell me my “check isn’t pending” when I call in. Avoid this place and get a membership with Navy Fed or PenAir. GW is not worth this headache.

    I was charged $315 for Finance charges for a payment I made Early. This credit union posted the early payment for July but took finance charges from June. If you posted the payment for the July payment the finance charges should have come from July as well. This was not right and definitely not the way credit unions usually work. Finance charges are from the date of posted payments. They have also been taken finance charges from my principal payments and I had to call and them and them to correct that. Very Upset customer. I will be reporting to BB

    If you pay late, they charge you 1% of your balance, which is $100 on a $10,000 loan, $200 on a $20,000 loan. Even big corporations and banks will work with you on a payment plan, and only charge a late fee of about $30. But not these people, despite being a local credit union. I'm VERY disappointed. Been paying on time for years. Never missed a payment. Asked to postpone until my next check and they said I could but they would charge me this inflated fee. Don't use them. They are rigid and will not work with you, no matter how loyal and responsible you've been.

    Made a simple call today to GWFCU to lower my $5k non-reward credit card line down to $1k and raise my $1k reward credit card to $5k. Was told I had to fill out a new app. and re-apply to make the changes. It is a very stupid policy to make members apply all over again for the same amount of credit you already have! We have been members with GWFCU for nearly 30 years and have an excellent credit history and rating. Things were so much more customer oriented when it was Monsanto Employees Credit Union. The leadership at GWFCU have forgotten where they came from. Looks like it may be time to move on since they care so little for us old timers!
