The below pasted email was sent to United ********************* because they are associated with Hilex and recommended Hilex to repair water damage in my home,I'm writing to you regarding the business practices of Hilex Construction Company. Based on your information, Hilex is associated with United Water Restoration, which prompted me to use Hilex to restore water damage because of the professional way *** mitigated our water damage and believing Hilex would perform similarly.Unfortunate;y, Hilex did not. After signing/initialing a multi-page contract (which should have been my first clue of legal over protection) with *********************, I did not hear from them. After 13 days, I called *** asking when could they start work, which he replied with uncertainty when they would start work. I then looked up on-line reviews of Hilex. They were not great. I then contacted other floor installation companies and found a business willing to start in a few days. I then called Hilex, talked to ******, and asked to cancel the contract, which he acknowledged my request. He made no mention of the 3 day time limit for cancelation, nor did he caution me regarding the 20% penalty on the entire value of the contract.I talked to **************** at Hilex and he stated there would be a $1598 penalty due to not canceling within 3 days.I'm asking if you can influence this decision in my favor and reduce the penalty to a fair amount? Also, I want you to be aware of their way of conducting business and may want to refrain from recommending them in future.

************** in not being truthful, Hilex Construction did everything possible to commence the repairs as soon as possible and with-in 30 days as stated on the contract.

************** paid his deposit to Hilex on 1/4/2024 agreeing to the original scope of work.  The project manager completed a walkthrough with the sub-contractor on 1/9/2024.  While completing this walkthrough, ************** decided that he did not want a bathroom vanity replaced and instead have it repaired.

The project manager had to go back and revise the approved estimate to change it from replacing the bathroom vanity to repairing it.  The project manager had to adjust all costs to reflect this change and have the subcontractor agree to the new costs.
The project manager completed all changes and reached out to ************** on 1/11/2024 to discuss the new costs and he agreed to them.  On this same day the sub-contractor sent the signed agreement with the revised scope.

On 1/15/2024 the project manager submitted the revised invoice to accounting to process the deposit payment to the sub-contractor. The deposit payment to the sub-contractor was approved and sent via ****** the sub-contractor received payment on the 1/18/2024 to commence repairs on the week of 1/22/2024.

************** is in breach of contract.  As per the contract, Hilex will return ***************** deposit less the 20% and six hours Hilex has spent on his file totaling $1,589.38.

The issue here is that ************** is trying to get out of a contract because as he stated in a text Good luck to you. I had a much better offer.
