May 7th 2024- Since gold prices were going up, I thought it was a good time to sell old jewelry. **** told me that they charge 15%. (oh what?). I gave him 12 bangles, 4 necklaces with earrings. He did not weigh them in front of me. Bangles weight was fine as I remembered that. This was my first time selling gold jewelry. He gave me $8000 check and gave me paper to sign which had items, weight and the Karat written on it. I did not check it before signing it to make sure all pieces were accounted for. Few weeks later I went again to sell a necklace. **** told me $1500 for the necklace after weighing it and said he charges 20% of what? He did not want to explain and answer that question and said I needed to go to school to learn that. He weighed in the back. Then I gave him 2 gold rings and I asked him to weigh but he said he already weighed which was incorrect. He gave me a check for $1500. Few weeks later I looked at the sheets which he gave me and I realized that one necklace with earring was missing in the first document and 2 rings were missing from the second document and the weight of the necklace was wrong. I have weight and pictures of each jewelry piece I have. I went to resolve it but the owner **** said how much I wanted to resolve it? I threw a number $4000. He became very rude and said get out of here and I was fired as a customer and never to go back. He said this much for that little gold? On both occasions not all piece of jewelry I gave them were accounted for. He basically kept them. I asked him to return my jewelry and I would return his money. He wrote that he had gotten them melted and does not know how much money he got as there were other pieces of jewelry with my jewelry to be melted. There were security cameras. I did not check the sheet before leaving the store. I never thought he will not account all pieces of my jewelry - stealing! He was not transparent. Of note - 15% vs 20% of what, they both **** and **** charged $48 per gram.Business response

In response to the complaint, we explained to the client both before the purchase and then again when she came back, how we buy jewelry. As far as the 20% she is mentioning, we offer 20% more in trade for an in-store purchase which she declined and took the cash offer. When we determine a price we are willing to pay for either a purchase or a **** we present our offer to our clients and it is their decision whether they choose to sell or not. Once they make the decision to sell to us, we type up a purchase/pawn form (reviewed and approved by the ********** of ************ that specifies the agreed upon price and states that the seller is the rightful owner of said merchandise. ********************** signed and provided her thumb print on this form. We have the completed forms on file, she also received a copy of each. I am not submitting a copy as it is a legal document and I am not sure if it is permissible by law to do so.
We are required by law to hold merchandise purchased for 30 days before scrapping or re-selling. ********************** came in well after the 30-day period and insisted that we owed her a substantial amount more than she was paid. She has been harassing us in person by phone and via email so we have since ceased speaking to her regarding this matter.

Business made incorrect statements. **** told me that they will charge 15% but the next time **** ( owner) said 20%( of what?) he did not want to answer that and said I needed to go to school like him to understand. They did not tell me that I will get 20% discount if I would buy any jewelry from their store when I was there first time so I took the check for $8000. Later on, they said they will keep that discount for the whole year.
They did not weigh in front of me. But I have weight and pictures of all pieces of jewelry I have.
He knew items were missing and the mistakes were made and he asked me how much more I wanted to settle it. I threw a number $4000 but I did not insist and this is when **** (owner) became very aggressive and asked me to leave.
I have never called them. I went to the store to pick up the jewelry which I gave them for repair and I was very polite so I do not know what harassment is he talking about? Yes, I have send them emails in trying to resolve it. People make mistake but they rectify it once they recognize it.

I am rejecting this response because: He did not account for all pieces of jewelry I gave him. There was issue with the weight of the necklace. They did not weigh it in front of the me. He did not explain how he was charging other than one person saying 15% and second person saying 20% and both charging $48 per gram?. No gold prices for that day were written on the document on both occasions. **** asked me how much more I wanted to settle so he knew there was a problem. Rather than acknowledging and resolving it, he became very rude. First time I went was on 5/7/2024 and second time I went on 5/21/2024 so within 30 days. He said I was having seller's remorse and there was nothing I could do. I never thought not all pieces will be accounted for. I did not check the receipt as I trusted. It was a jewelry store. Even from a grocery store you get a proper receipt with weight of each item and the prices. Even after paying and signing the credit card receipt, if you find the mistake, businesses apologize for their mistake and rectify it.
Sincerely,

In response, we have nothing to rectify or apologize for. You SOLD us items on 5/7/24 and 5/21/24. We are required by law to hold purchased items for 30 days from the transaction date, which we did, you did not accuse us of anything until recently. On the forms of both those days there is a total weight of gold purchased. I believe you were given each individual weight and price so that if you didn't want to include a specific item we could remove it. As we also mentioned to you, the price of gold fluctuates daily so if you came in on a different day the total could've been a different amount. You were given the information before any paperwork was written up. It was your CHOICE to sign the CONTRACT and take the amount offered. You could've decided to take your items and get prices elsewhere but you didn't. All we can do is gather information and decide how much we are able to pay a client for their items. The choice to accept the offer is up to the client. Everything about this transaction was done with total transparency, so I am not sure how this has become an issue for the BBB.Customer response

I did not go there to ****. I asked them if they buy gold? If the prices of the gold change daily, how come prices were not written on the sheet? How come I was charged $48 per gram on both occasions? I was not given weight and prices of each item. I never sold any jewelry before. I trusted the system- each item weight and Karat and the price of the gold for that day. This was a jewelry store. I signed the first sheet trusting and without checking if they have accounted for each item I gave them. I am not sure if I signed the second sheet. He kept those 2 rings and gave me less weight of the necklace. Video camera will tell the truth that I asked him to weigh the rings. He weighed necklace showing me his back. Not answering my questions and telling me that I needed to go to school to understand it. Then lying that I have been harassing by calling them and going to their shop. She me the proof. He insulted me, raised his voice because he was guilty and he those this was the best way. He asked me how much more I want and I said $4000. If he did not like the number, he could have that it is too much. Let me see what I can do to come to an agreement and explain you how we charged and pay you for the items which were not included by mistake. It was strange that one person talks to the customer, another person in the third row puts information in the computer without knowing the details and the third person hands over the paper. He knows that he cheated me and is failing to apologize and fix the issue. Businesses do that to keep clients happy even if they have to take a bite to make it right.Customer response

He needs to apologize for talking to me like that. It was all recoded in video camera. I kept quiet and left but I could have fixed him. I went to sell the gold not to ****. I thought prices were calculated based on the gold prices for that day, weight and the karat. This must be standard process so I did not negotiate and I signed the paper they gave me without checking if all the items were included. They did not weigh in front of me. Another person was putting number in the computer ( he was not the one weighing it and dealing with me). Both times, they charged me $48 per gram even though prices of gold were different. No mention of pearls and the diamonds prices. He did not mention gold rings in the second paper. I asked him to weigh but he said he already did- lie. Why he could not put that on the scale in front of me just to take this confusion out? Even the weight of necklace was not right. He told me 31 grams but on the paper, it says 30 grams. Actual gross weight was *****. out of that .900 gms were beads so net weight - ***** gms
So the items were missing from the document, there was an issue with the weight as they weighed in the back and prices for the gold on each day.
On May 7th gold prices- $2326.31 On May 21st gold prices- $2426.84 so how can he charge $48 per gram, One said 15% and another said 20%??
He knows that and that was the reason he asked me how much more you would want? I said $4000. I have spent so much of my time trying to resolve it as I feel I cheated and insulted by this business owner.
