I applied to lease an apartment at ***************, owned by The Radco Companies in Feb. 2022. I spoke with ****, the regional support at the time, and he walked me through the entire application process. Because I am in the middle of a divorce, I don't have child support or alimony coming in yet and had to use my parents as my guarantors. We paid a total of $150 in application fees. I am also undergoing a custody battle, and my attorney told me to rent a 3 bedroom unit. The court has ordered my husband and I to sell our current home to pay for our attorney fees. **** told me that there was a 3 bedroom unit coming available March 31, and that the unit would be mine once the application went through. I was approved and was promised an emailed welcome letter. On Thursday Feb 17, I received a call from a private number. The gentleman told me **** was no longer with ***************, and that the 3 bedroom unit was no longer available. Its current occupants had been up for eviction, but found a way to pay last minute. He told me there were no 3 bedroom units available. I was never told this was a possibility. I knew the leasing office was housed in a renovated 3 bedroom ***** *** asked to be able to rent it. I asked if he could honor the pricing given to me for the un-renovated ***** since I wanted & needed the cheaper option. He told me he would have to talk to ownership and would touch base by end of the day Feb 18. It is now Feb 22 *** have heard nothing. He refused to give a callback number. When I call their number **************, it rings without stop, with no way to leave a message. I have messaged through their online portal, have visited twice (no one was in the leasing office each time). Their website lists hours as 8:30 to 5:30 yet no one has been at the leasing office, and phone lines have been nonoperational since I began the application process. I am beginning to wonder if it was a scam, and if they are renting units at all.
