06/10/2023 I came to the laundromat with my infant in his car seat. I paid $7.50 to wash my laundry. I came back to switch the laundry and brought my infant with my again. As I was switching my laundry and employee approached me and told me I have to leave. She informed me that no children are allowed. I explained to her that its an infant and he was sleeping. He wasnt causing any problems. all I was going to do was switch my laundry and leave. I told her I would like to speak with the owner as all I wanted to do was switch my laundry so I wanted to chat with the owner about that. The employee came back and informed me that she had spoken to the owner and that I must leave immediately or she would call the police on me. They have a policy that only 12 years and older is allowed. Upon reviewing their reviews on ****** I found out that many other people have had this problem as well. I am not sure if this is legal or not in ***** but it seems like discrimination to me. I had to take my wet laundry and leave. My neighbor has also had the same experience with her children were she was told that her children must leave.

    Business response

    06/20/2023

Every since the start of COVID (3 1/2 years ago) we have had this policy - No kids under 12 on the premises!

This is how we figured we could help control the overcrowding in the laundromat, to give more distance between us and to help keep customers and kids from getting sick. At this time it was relayed that crowds & kids made the matter worse.

We continued this policy even after COVID restrictions relaxed cause our employees enjoyed not having to try to deal with kids uncontrollable behavior that parents would not! We actually had more & more & more customers comment on how they liked the comfortable atmosphere in our laundromat of not having kids.

I DO NOT hate kids! (You do not know me).  I do dislike that some parents will not teach manners or control their kids.

We had in the past some great parents and great kids. We really appreciated them and told them so. We are very sorry to have to refuse those kids from coming in. But, like when any rule or policy comes in play, it's because of the ones who make it hard for everyone else.

So, in saying that, we cannot "pick & choose" who we allow in or we would have more irrate customers on "why do you let their kid in and not mine?"

The policy of "NO kids under 12 on the premises" pretty much has to be for everyone. And YES it is posted.

Now this lady who is not happy with our policy (And I cannot mention "her" name, but she can bash my business name with BBB, on ******** and wherever else) has been coming to our laundromat for a while before she had her baby.  So we're sure she was well aware of our policy, but still chose to defy it then cause trouble when she was told we don't allow kids under 12. We're sorry you are not happy with this policy and can't have your way. But we are a private business and have the right to run it the way we think best for the majority of our customers. You also have the freedom to chose another laundromat if you don't care for our policies instead of bad mouthing our business, calling me horrible foul names & causing trouble. You chose not to leave your name and number when asked or I would have called you and talked to you.

We all work really hard to keep this laundromat clean, running good, respectable, safe, and comfortable for whoever wants to respect it and use it.  And yes, we will call the police when foul language and yelling from out of control customers push us to it.

If you are a parent that teaches your kids respect & manners, THANK YOU from ALL BUSINESSES and we are very sorry to turn you & your kids away from ours!
