I'm am beyond disappointed in CompTIA as a company. I filed a formal complaint and I feel as though I just got the run around. I tried to explain the same thing over and over through my complaint, but the responses I got made me feel like I was what I was asking for was incomprehensible. My simple request was to address the inconsistencies in the material, which they already admitted to, and then take the proper action to fix this. They wanted me to show that I purchased materials, but I am taking the course through my school so I would not have an official CompTIA invoice. I also provided them with the email that is associated with my account, and they still claim that they have no record. I also explained in my initial complaint that there were questions on the official exam that were irrelevant to the materials studied and that were poorly written. They asked me to provide them with this unfamiliar material, but obviously, that is not something I can do as I do not have access to the exam questions, nor do I expect to ever have access to those questions. If material is unfamiliar to me, how am I supposed to remember what the questions on the test to help with the follow up? I also let them know that I addressed this issue with my school first (who they have a contract with), and this is when CompTIA stated that they were aware of the issues and basically have no plans to address them. I have exhausted all of my options at this point and I am beyond tired of fighting this. It feels as though I am going in circles and I am losing my mind. I am writing this review to just let future customers know that while this is a standard certification that the industry expects, if I had the choice, I would not touch this material with a 10 foot pole. I do not expect nor want a reply at this point from the company as they have made it very clear where they stand. This is simply a warning for others.CompTIA Response

I'm sorry for your disappointment. According to the BBB complaint you filed, which was addressed, you were not able to show that you purchased training material from us, and you stated you were provided training by a third-party training provider, not CompTIA. In addition, CompTIA nor any other training providers may state that a specific course or learning tool alone will ensure a passing exam score, as that depends significantly on ones experience, prior knowledge, and time allocated to prepare for the exam.Review from Joseph M

I absolutely dislike CompTIA. I took the class for two months, studied hard for the test and utterly failed it twice. They later wanted me too pay hundreds of dollars to try and take it again. I was not going to pay for another failure. Ive built hundreds of pcs and worked around tech for 3 years and was extremely surprised by how badly i failed. Even though i have a tech channel that has 14 thousand subscribers, i still feel like a failure with that company. I will happily never have dealings with them, because the whole thing just feels really odd. I have too much of a strong feeling that somehow i was taken advantage of in some elaborate scheme to make me spend more money.CompTIA Response

I'm sorry that you did not succeed in passing the exam. Unfortunately, not everyone passes the exam on the first try. In addition, we do not provide free retakes. You must pay the price of the exam for each attempt. Also, neither CompTIA nor any other training providers may state that a specific course or learning tool alone will ensure a passing exam score, as that depends significantly on ones experience and prior knowledge and the amount of time allocated to preparing for the exam.Review from El C

Horrible bad service. I requested a refund after speaking to customer service in regards to having already purchased the CompTIA A+ core 1 study guide and was denied a refund which is not in their policy only for vouchers purchases will you not receive a refund. I suggest to anyone studying for the Core 1 to go on *********** and study the 8 hour video to get the necessary information needed to study and pass the exam versus purchasing a book that prolongs the timeframe of learning. The book is a waste of money that they will not give you back and in addition they never answer the phone when you call customer care support services.CompTIA Response

I'm sorry for your disappointment. Unfortunately, refunds are not provided for training that has been purchased and used. In addition, I'm not sure if you dialed the correct number or during the times agents are answering the phones, 9 am to 7 pm CST, but out our agents are available when customers call for assistance.Review from Nicholas V

Received an email that stated a beta version of the Cloud + Certification was available for a discounted price. Purchased the discounted voucher and proceeded to study for and take the test with no issues, other than there being a bevy of material and content that was unexpected, as there was no way to know what would be on the test for certain, since there was no study guide yet. Was advised that as this was a beta/pre-production/pre-release version, there would be a period of time before the results were available, as the grading rubric was presumably not finalized. Keep in mind CompTIA sells you 3 years of being "certified" once passing an exam in exchange for your hard earned dollars.The results took quite a while to be released, longer than expected, approximately 6 months.I called in several times, ultimately being advised I had passed. Fine, right? NOT SO FAST...Presumably, since if you have not received the results of your test, you can't willingly or truthfully claim you have the cert, so CompTIA would not include this portion of idle "grading" time as a part of your 3 years, right? WRONG. And this was never stated up front. Logically, one would assume they would wait until they had officially told you that you had passed before starting the clock...When I called in to dispute this, they basically said "****, that's the way it is." So I paid for and did not get what they advertise in the end. Considering further action at the moment, but strongly recommend you go to other Cert providers, or a different industry even.CompTIA Response

Congratulations on passing the CompTIA Cloud+ beta exam!Beta exams are used for exam development. However, candidates do not receive their exam scores until after the version of the beta exam taken is released. Should they pass, they receive certification, which is dated from the time they took the beta exam, not the time it was graded. We apologize if you were not aware of this. However, the exam dates in the account show the date the exam was taken not when the exam was graded.Review from Carleton T

I paid about $650 for a bundle that included a voucher and a retake voucher. I work so it took me quite awhile to study. It's been a year, but to my understanding I only have worry about the certification retirement date but in actuality the vouchers expire. The voucher literally expired days before I attempted to schedule my exam. I called customer service and spoke to Destiny and basically was told "nothing we can do". I feel ripped off for a two main reasons.1. It was extremely expensive and the bundle only covers core 1 and not core 2 (which I didn't realize and that's ridiculous for the price) 2. No extension, discount, or resolution was offered (you'd think the expiration wouldn't be hidden in small fine print and why the company's policy so adamant not to help a customers l.e. no returns all sales final mindset???)CompTIA Response

I'm sorry to hear that your voucher expired. The CompTIA Store clearly states that vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase and cannot be extended. There is no fine print. All the terms and conditions are clearly stated.CompTIA Response

This business ripped me off. After I spent hours upon hours studying for the A+ exam, I took both the hardware and software portions of the A+. So, I wondered, Where was my A+ certification in the mail? They told me that I took a "different set" of the A+ hard or software test. I don't know why I was so furious; I can't even read the emails from CompTIA anymore. They haven't taken any responsibility for their actions. Why would I know to take a test that was in a different set? I have asked them for a refund. I have been so angry because I have spent so much of my life studying for this test. I have a mental disability that inhibits my learning, so I promise you the amount of time I have devoted to passing this test with excessive I would like to take CompTIA to court; if I had the time and money, I would file a lawsuit against them. The problem here is that when you go to sign up for the test, they have so much of your information that it is like the government or your employer; they know exactly what test you took and when. Normally, you might expect some big, bold red letters to pop up warning you before you pay that you are about to take a test that will not qualify you for the certification. With CompTIA, I did not receive any warning that I was going to take a test that would give me nothing. They also did not warn me that the tests would be updated and changed soon. So that I might need to take the test again if I do not pass it quickly. They took all of my money knowing that one of my test attempts would not be valid. Friends, please use another form of certification ****** has certifications and there are other Vendors to choose from. If you have come here looking for the integrity review of this business, it's going to be a zero for me.CompTIA Response

I'm sorry if you were not aware that both exams must come from the same version of the exam. Although it's not in big red letters, it is clearly posted on our website. Also, we do not have any information on a candidate other than their name, address, and phone number. We are not aware of anyone who purchases vouchers and takes exams until they actually take the exam and it's uploaded to their account by ******* VUE.Review from Jonathan N

A refund was requested in the form of a check. Refunds can only be returned in the method of which the products were purchased. Unfortunately, the window in which you could receive a refund expired when you kept requesting to be provided a refund via a check.Review from Jennifer B

I studied for my exam through *** Academy. They said that if I passed the assessment exam, I should have no problem passing the exam. I scored well on the assessment so I scheduled my exam at a testing center. When I got to the testing center, they said that I could take the exam 3 times back to back if I did not pass. The questions on the exam were much trickier than the assessment test. I did not pass the exam. When I called CompTIA to ask how to take the exam again, they said that I had to pay for the exam to take it again, but that I could only take it 2 times back to back. There seems to be a significant lack of clarity about exam expectations and honestly seems a bit rigged to rip people off. I won't go through *** Academy or CompTIA again. I will take the certification through another company if I actually need to.CompTIA Response

I took the comptia test this morning but I ran out of time and couldnt finish. I was using a MAC desktop to take the exam. My computer passed all the system check. During the pre-test setup, the test ******* said that they had problems hearing me but they were able to see me on video. They made some technical adjustments on there end and remedied the audio problems. During the actual test the drag and drop feature on the software was faulty. When I executed the function to drag It would not release the answers I selected. I had to stop the exam, contact the ******* via chat and troubleshoot. The software was buffering around and around for a few minutes. The ******* and I continued chatting and the only question they asked me was whether or not the system was working or not. I simply waited for the program to self correct. When it started working again I ended the chat and continued taking the exam. The troublehoot issue with the drag and drop cost me valuable time. The clock continued on without pausing. I am extremely disappointed with the issues that I experienced. Although I failed the test probrably would have passed if I was able to complete. This is the response I got from CompTia today:Thank you for your patience. We have reviewed your responses for the performance-based question and see that the responses saved correctly and your score is correct. We strongly advise visiting an in-person testing center with Windows PCs or using a Windows PC at home so this issue with the drag-and-drop does not occur again. Unfortunately, we are unable to replace your voucher since you were able to answer the questions. The issue was completely ignored. PearsonVue is a complete joke the customer service is horrible. They act as if they hate their job. My issue was completely ignored. The customer service representatives at ******* Vue was extremely unprofessional. We verified that the performance-based questions and responses were saved correctly and your score is correct. We also advised visiting an in-person testing center with Windows PCs or using a Windows PC at home so this issue with the drag-and-drop does not occur again, and we provided you a voucher to retake the exam.Review from Jonathan H

CompTIA advertises its club store membership as a means to obtain a 20% discount on ALL vouchers found on their website, but in reality, that discount isn't applied for the *****Security+ voucher, and likely others from the academic store on CompTIA's website. The academic store advertises vouchers at a lower price point for students. Upon learning this, I contacted CompTIA customer support and they claimed my ********************** club membership was active and working and did not address my request for a refund. I sent a 2nd email again requesting a refund which was ignored. Only after calling my credit card company and disputing the charge did CompTIA finally respond saying they would approve my refund as a "one time courtesy." At no point has CompTIA addressed the lack of transparency and as such I post my review here. Customer trust should be priority#1! Always use a credit card, businesses will take advantage of you!CompTIA Response

The *********** was for the CompTIA Store and was advertised and purchased from the CompTIA Store. We do not offer double discounts which is why the ********** couldn't be purchased from the **** since students receive up to 50% off on that Store.
