My husband **** ordered a garage from this business. We told them we needed it coded for the MN weather and to be able to pass the necessary codes. My husband designed it, the company then hired ****** ******* to build the structure. They did not supply us with the correct doors and windows and they were to insulate it using mn code. They were not up to code and we sent them back. When they finished the garage they demanded a cashers check before leaving on 10/23/24. My husband paid them in full. That Saturday he discovered that the back wall was not plumb, had gaps on the eaves and nothing was sealed. The next Monday my husband contacted them and told them the issue. They demanded pictures to which he sent them. They said they were not good enough, so he took more pictures and sent again. We decided that we were going to have the building inspected. November 5, 2024 we had ******* ***** ********** do an inspection that cost us $200. They demanded a copy to which we did send it to them. They said it wasn't complete and we resent in on Nov 19, 2024. Since then they have made no attempts to fix the issues. The report inspection states, The craftmanship is marginal. The insolation in not up to code for R-value in our area/missing gable end trim/no sill seal/no area for proper soffit venting or ridge cap vent/areas where screws did not hit the metal framing/screws are not in straight lines/wall is not plumb with gaps on the eaves/L brackets that are not supporting the metal framing from below/gaps in precut material resulting in walls not being square/ there is no proper ventilation in attic area.Business response

We are not ****** ******* we are Coast to Coast Carports of IL. The installers ask for payment when the building was finished. We require pictures so that we are able to see what the issue is and be able to resolve it properly. I spoke with the inspection gentlemen on Dec 5, 2024 and he informed me that he was not sure about doing the inspection because he was not familiar with the type of metal buildings that we install. He informed me that he told them that he could write up something but that he was not sure of how these buildings were constructed. He also understood the insulation that was installed and told them that the only way to install different insulation was that it would have to be installed over the current insulation that is on the building. We did request a copy as we need to know what the problems were with the building. This is a requirement when an inspection is done. We do not do venting for the soffit, ridge caps and the attic. We are able to put in the missing screws and check out the brackets that they are stating are not installed properly. They ordered doors and windows then called me at Coast to Coast Carports of IL and changed them to just having frame-outs and not having the doors and windows. Our doors and windows are not insulated. NO where on the contract was it stated that this was going to be a heated garage and that it had to meet MN codes for weather. We feel like this needs to be brought to the attention of the dealer who sold them the building.

We have a true ansmd legal document inspection from the building inspector. They did contact him yesterday and he did not tell them that he doent do yhose types of inspection, only this was his first with their buildimg types. He also told me they do have the inspection report and he reviewed the issues with the structure. They are cotrect that we ordered this garage through ****** ***** *********s. They are the ones who hired them. We ordered a mn garage and they were told it is a heated garahe. Also, the building was already up when we seen the windows and man door were not insolated so we sent them back. The inspector never told them he informed us he could not write this up. He told me to contact the company and inform them this is not the garage we ordered and take it back. We were assured they could provide us with a mn garage. If you look at invoice you can see where they charged us for insolating the garage. We sent them a copy of the legal docment of the inspection on november 13 and again on november 19. They verified that they teceived it and they sent it to the shop. **** has emails comfirming this. No matyer how you look at this, we are not responsible for lack of communications beyween the two companys. I informed the inspector yesterday that yhis will probably have to go to court and he may need to testify. We dont really care which company fixes the issues. If it cant ve done they need to come get the building because its not what we odered and the structure has many building codes it did not pass. Again, they wete very well informed that it was a heated garage and assured us they could build it for mn wheather. I can send a legal copy of the inspection report that was sent to both companys if need be.Customer response

They refused to leave until **** gave them the check. They didnt even give **** a chance to look the strucure over.Business response

No where on the contract does it state that this is to be a heated building. They may have told the dealer that they needed this garage to be heated. The insulation they ordered is what **** call ***** and ask for the reflective insulation. The doors were on the original order but were taken off of the invoice and when **** called and ask for just frame-outs. They were not charged for doors or windows. I have spoken with the City and they do not come out and do inspections on buildings so this is something that they did on their own that was not required. I did speak with the inspector and he told me that he was not familiar with these types of buildings and that he could write up something for them. This is a matter of they knew what they were getting and now they do not want it. They way we look at it is if they knew that the insulation was not what they wanted why did they not stop the install crew from putting it up? The only way to take it down is that the whole building will need to be taken down in order to remove the insulation. Please advise if we need to send you the phone conversation with the inspector and the contract and the invoice that was sent out with the installers to give to the customer when the building was complete. Our installers do not demand the payment before the building was looked over by Todd. We have an invoice that shows that **** signed invoice that was given to him. We here at Coast to Coast Carports feel like the dealer who sold them the building should be included in this report. I will be calling the dealer today to discuss this matter with him/her.Customer response

Both partys were told we need a heated garage. They were both told the weather conditions here and what was needed. This was discussed through out the process. We bought our own garage doors due to theirs not being insolated. As i said the man door and windows wete sent back when ee found out they were not insolated. **** did not tell them to make modification to the doors or windows. They were advised of the heated slab and to notify them when the slab was completed. The building does not meet code due to many mistakes to the building besides insolstion. We asked them to fix the problems and they did not. A building inspection was done due to show proof of what the issues were. We have every right to have it inspected. Why would a person install a $33,000 garage and put up a cold storage until? The company did demand payment before they left. The building structure is unacceptable and poorly constructed by this company. As I stated before. This is not what we ordered and they can come get their building or further action will be taken and the will be charged for attorny fees and any other fews.Customer response

I have attached the building inspection report. Please view to see all issues with the building. Originally we attempted to give the company the opportunity to fix issues with the building but they would not communicate with us on arrangements to fix the issues. We wanted the issues fixed and refunded for the insolation that did not meet MN code. We took their verbal report that it was sufficient for MN weather to with stand 40 below temperatures. This was done before the insolation was put up. They have made no attempts to fix any of the issues. As of now, all my belongings are outside in sub zero temperatures. We had to completely stop construction on the building due to this. They have caused many issues for us and put us on hold for too long. We were hopeful for mediation to an acceptable conclusion. If you need a copy of the invoice for the heated slab we would be more than happy to provide that. As I said, it we cannot come to an agreement, we will be hiring an attorney and they will be responsible to all attorney fees and cost of damages to our belongings as we have to place to store them.Customer response

I would like to state that I have investigated Coast to Coast Carports and reviewed their rating and complaints. There were 75 reviews, their rating is a 1 out of 5. almost all were complaints against the company. We never hired this company. ****** ***** *********s hired them. I hold both companies liable. I feel these companies need to be investigated. At this point my husband and I are not asking for the company to fix repairs. We want them to come get their building and refund all our money. Many customers are still waiting for the company to come fix the issues, some waiting over a year. My husband and I have spent over $70,000.00 on this garage and they provide us with a cold storage until that we did not order, it does not pass inspection and we are unable to use it or install the electric or hook up for the heat. We have plastic over the windows and doors to protect the slab. We intend to contact an attorney and report them to The Attorney Generals office. We will take this as far as we need to and plan to sue for expenses and damages.Business response

I have spoken with the dealer who sold them the building and nothing was documented with the dealer stating that the garage was a heated garage. When **** called and spoke to ***** in regards to the insulation I explained to him that it was reflective insulation he agreed that is what he wanted. No where on the invoice does it state that the garage is a heated garage.
**** sent and email stating that all he wanted was the issues fixed.
Legally Coast to Coast Carports is not to be discussing any of these issues with ***** as she is not on the legal contract.
Coast to Coast Carports of IL will need to know if they are wanting the issues fixed or do they want the building taken down. There is nothing that we can do about the insulation that is the only insulation that we have and that is what **** ordered.

Both companys were told that the building was to pass mn wheather codes and it was a heated garage. They were also told the insolation has to meet mn code. They are not telling the truth and we do not have a legal contract with this company. If there was such a contract, we were never provided that. **** is unaware of signing anything in a contract. We only have the invoice from them a a building discription and plan. I have very little hope of them coming to fix the problems in a timely matter with the companies history. We would like them to take the building down and refund us All our money and we will start over with a qualified local company. This building is not what we ordered. They can not be trusted.
