Important information
- Additional Info:The Chicago BBB would like consumers to be aware that there is never a legitimate reason for a business to send them a check, and request that the consumer deposit this check and wire or send a portion of the funds onward.
It has come to the attention of the Chicago BBB that this name and address are being used in a variation of the ubiquitous check scam.
In the check scam, the victim is sent a check, usually with false information on the check and provided in a letter. In this case consumers are being provided this address in Tinley Park, IL as well as the name of UGN Financials. UGN Financials does not exist, and the business operating from this location has no involvement with this offer.
For one explanation or another, (usually for "mystery shopping", or to pay taxes on some sort of prize winnings) consumers are asked to deposit this check in their personal bank account, and subsequently send (almost always via wire transfer) a large portion of the money onward to a third party, often located in Canada. However, due to standard banking practices, the check may appear to have "cleared" the account, but in fact the bank is still researching the check. When the check is discovered to be fraudulent or have no funds behind it, any funds that were made available from this check are removed from the consumer's account, leaving the consumer responsible for any money spent or sent onward.
