On Mar 7, 2024, I took my 2007 **** F350 to Ed's Automotive for the State required safety inspection. ************************* performed the inspection and found that there was looseness in the steering linkage and stated that it needed tie rod ends, idler arm and ****** arm replaced. The test for this is done with a person operating the steering wheel back and forth while the inspector kneels down in front of the vehicle to observe the steering linkage components in motion. The vehicle failed to pass inspection and I paid the $40 inspection fee and was told to correct the problem and bring the vehicle back for re-inspection within 30 days at no additional charge.Having done truck repairs myself for over 50 years, I checked the vehicle in my shop and found that only the tie rod ends needed replacement. I ordered top quality parts and installed them myself. I then took the vehicle to a reputable tire and alignment shop on 3/27/2024 and had the front end thoroughly checked by an ASE Certified Mechanic and then aligned to specifications. The mechanic found that all components in the front end are tight and in good condition. This is stated in writing on the work order receipt. I then immediately took the vehicle back to Ed's Automotive for re-inspection and *************** failed it again stating I had not replaced the idler and ****** arms. ****, he had one of his workers violently jerking the steering wheel back and forth causing the linkage to jump up and down which doesn't happen under normal driving conditions. I informed him that I had just had the vehicle aligned and tested just an hour earlier by a certified mechanic and there is no further problem with the steering on this truck. Also, the mechanic stated that the ****** arm is a non wearing part that almost never needs replacing and the inspector should know that. But *************** refused to give me the sticker. I took the truck to another shop and it passed inspection with no problem. But I had to pay twice.
