On January 6, Devers Tree Service came to clean up damage that was done due to the ice storm. They removed debris, but they didn't remove the debris from the driveway, they put it on the deck and the yard. They damaged the yard and driveway. They claim they aren't responsible according to their contract. They also marked a tree for removal. They quoted us $4000 to do the work, but they charged $9000 as they claimed it was an emergency service. They provided a 10% discount bringing the cost down to $8100. Another company quoted us $5600 to remove the tree, stump, and the rest of the debris, but this was after Devers had done the work. Devers never came back to clean up, and I had to have another company come to clean up the debris. I feel that they took advantage of us.

We were contacted by the client to assess the damage of their property. Upon arrival it was notide that several large branches had broken off their backyard tree and struck the house and their deck. The roof was punctured through the ceiling of the living room. As discussed with the client this was considered an emergecy due to the punctured roof and impending weather. This is also an insurance claim and the only portion the client is responsible for paying is their $1500 deductable. They asked for the remaining portion of the tree to be removed but we explained to them that insurance would not pay for that. They understood and agreed to pay out of pocket. We told them we would remove the remaining tree for $4000 and once they secured the funds to let us know and we would get them on the schedule. All the MOVEABLE debris on the roof, deck and yard was removed. There was small debris remaining stuck in the snow and ice. We discussed removing the rest of the small debris once the snow melted and we came back to remove the tree. The debris was stacked in the front yard as we believed a grapple truck was coming to pick it up. There was a misscommunication between workers and a loader was used to pick up the debris resulting in mild tire marks to the yard. The clients were home during the entire process and made aware of every step and plan change. In regards to the driveway damage the orginal plan was to bring in a crane to reach the debris in the back yard as there was only a small gate under a single car carport to hand carry everything through. A boom truck was brought in to clear some branches from the front tree and it was noticed that the already broken concrete was shifting so we cancelled the boom truck and crane resulting in manual removal from the house and back yard.  Again the client was informed and they stated the driveway was already cracked it wasn't a big deal. This also required a tree climber to climb the iced over tree and roof for removal. We never "marked a tree for removal". We did give them a 10% discount for the frustration they seem to be having with the process. After the client saw the bill to the insurance he started arguing for a cheaper price stating we took advantage of them. Several times we stated it is an insurance claim and the insurance approved the invoice. The $900 discount we provided them was to help cover the cost of their deductable. We are also giving them the $60 they paid for someone to finish the cleanup after the snow/ice melted. I have since talked with his wife several times and she has been understanding of the situation.
