We signed a contract with H&H Painting to replace the flooring and handrails on our wood deck and apply two coats of solid deck stain. Regrettably, our experience with this company was a nightmare. They applied latex exterior house paint to our deck instead of solid deck stain, as called for in the contract. The finish on the deck had issues from day one of a shiny, tacky finish, followed by areas of peeling, bubbling and oozing, and finally a solid coating of white, chalky water spots all over the entire surface. After several attempts to contact the owner via phone calls, emails, sending photos of the damage and asking him to come take a look, it was several *months* before he finally admitted fault and said he was committed to fixing the problem. They then attempted to strip the deck, but after this failed we were promised the deck would be replaced...but they didn't show up for the work and then simply stopped responding. We were left with a deck that looks old, peeling and worn. We have in writing that owner stated our deck would be fixed, but this has not happened and he simply disappeared. Unfortunately, the deck wasn't the only problem with H&H Painting, as they were also paid to replace trim and repaint the house. SO MANY shoddy work issues causing us stress and requiring contact back and forth with owner for things to be fixed and redone. He was unprofessional and slow to respond (often claiming he was on vacation, again and again) during the year-long ordeal. It appears that owner has little knowledge of the skill level of his contractors or the actual work being performed. He collected our $8,600, left issues unresolved, and stopped responding. He claims to have a "5 year warranty", but this is moot as he isn't even willing to fix immediate problems with the original workmanship. We have every email and text from the past year, the can of latex paint used on the deck that was left with us, as well as photos and videos as proof of everything stated here.Business response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined the response would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
The response in no way addresses the poor workmanship, issues with the freezing pipe and no responsibility assumed for not properly insulating, or the failed tile work in the shower, all of which required hiring of a competent contractor to remedy. The contractor was contacted and notified on multiple occasions and failed the remedy the failed work; all of which is within the contract and warranty on the work. I expect a check by September 15, 2023 in the amount of $4,250 for the work required by a competent contractor to rebuild the bench in the shower that was not waterproofed properly and the pipes that were not insulated. All of which were photographed, sent to contractor immediately and attached to the original BBB complaint.Otherwise, you will pay all court and attorney costs, plus damages incurred.

#********- Case #- H&H Painting strives to do the best job possible for all of our customers. We do recognize that ******************* is not 100% satisfied with the project and for that we sincerely apologize. The scope of the project was a bathroom remodel which included drywall, painting, tile floor and shower installation, installing tub, plumbing and electrical. There were a few delays due to Covid with vendors.
On June 25, 2023, we received an email from the customer that there were some insulation, grout and pipe issues. She indicated in the email correspondence that she hired another contractor to repair those items for a total $1475 however; I did not receive an invoice to pay that contractor for the customers repairs. We also did not have an agreement to use another contractor.
However, I would like to make things right for this situation and pay the $1475 within 14 business days to ensure resolution of this matter.
Again, our sincere apologies and hopefully this will complete the project.
Thank you,
*********************************

Hi *******,
Per the attached from December 2022, ***** Indicated ******, his tile guy would be out in 2-3 weeks to fix the tile. He never followed up or sent him and the issue as a result got significantly worse. He also never responded in Dec 2022 on the frozen pipe and insulation issue. Also the result of no insulation around the moved pipe for the master tub caused pipe freezing and all the siding had to be removed, to add proper insulation. None of these issues would have occurred, had the work been done right.
***** failed to follow up on that from multiple emails and text messages in December 2022 and May 2023 on both issues.
His message from Sep 8, indicated I would have the check by now. Also, he never addressed the matter in December 2022 or May of 2023, with multiple text messages and voicemails.
The matter will be resolved upon receipt of the check in the amount of $2,450 by Sep 29 for the failure of workmanship, failure to communicate, failure to honor the warranty on work per signed contract, incurred increased electric charges due to no insulation under new piping and floor per provided pictures, frozen pipe insulation remedy and the additional time I have had to spend on the matter hiring a competent contractor, buying new materials and labor to remedy ****** work on the insulation and tile (which required siding removal, adding of insulation, reinstall of siding, painting, etc and removal of broken tile on bench, remedy on waterproofing, reinstall new tile and grout.
