My roof was 22 years old. I had the insurance company evaluate the integrity. It was determined I needed a new roof or insurance would drop me. I was advised to update the gutters also as they were from the 1990's. I had new facia boards installed as the rafter tails were starting to decay. My home was built in the late 1920's, I am a widow and take care of my property. I interviewed 3 companies and selected Garrison Roofing. Garrison Roofing is transitioning from father to son. Father-****, son*****. I had the chimney completely rebuilt about 8 years ago by **** ***** at a cost of 5,000.00. I spoke of this to **** as he gave me his bid. He went on the roof and said his crew would not change anything on the chimney or flashing. ***** then became my point person for the roofing work. I told **** about the work that had been done with the chimney and how it should not be interfered with. **** assured me that either **** or himself would be present as the roof was torn off and new shingles applied. The roofing crew started and completed the job on June 21. There was a crew of 4 men here. They were dropped off earlish that morning with their supplies. I have no doubt that the roofers did a good job. It was hot and they were on the roof for around 10 hours. Neither **** nor **** were here at all that day. Around 5 p.m. **** and his wife showed up, **** did not go on the roof. He asked that I pay the entire amount of the project 10,573.00. I did so. The next Monday ******* ********* were at my home. I asked **** ******, owner, to please take a look at the chimney. He took photos which I sent to **** *****. The work around the chimney needed to be redone. I have photos that Mike took and photos that **** took as he was redoing the project. **** worked on the chimney this time for 3 days. I have saved all the texts from **** stating he would cover the cost of the chimney redo. He is not returning my calls. I will pay **** on the first. Can you help with this?

*** **** is correct in stating that Garrison Roofing is a roofing company transitioning from a father to son, ****, my father and I ****. My father, **** did originally meet with her and give her a bid for the roof. When finished assessing her roof he gave her a copy of a written bid, which entails what all work we needed and planned to do. This is a signed contract which she was given, and she agreed to when telling us to do the job. Right on the bid sheet/contract there is a place marked to step flash the fireplace. This was marked on the contract that she agreed to and made no changes to so therefore that is the work that we completed. The job was completed on June 21, 2024. I was present at this job early that morning to make sure my crew was all set. I did return later that afternoon to again check on the progress of the job and make sure the crew didn’t need anything. No, I did not get on the roof at this time as I did not need to because my foreman and his crew had everything taken care of. I once again returned later that night once the crew is finished to make the job was completed appropriately and make sure everything was picked up at the property. I did at that time give *** **** an invoice, but never once asked that she pay it, let alone the entire amount, however she did.
The next week when she had ******* ********* at her home and had the owner looking at her chimney and roof, she never reached out to me and even gave me a chance to come and look at what she claimed needed to be redone because of my crew. If there was truly something involving the roof work that my crew messed up, then the roofing company should’ve been the first ones notified of this. Not a separate chimney or gutter company. After receiving multiple pictures over several different days from her I could not see anything that was my fault from a roofing standpoint. Yes, the step flash of the fireplace was replaced as we do on all roofs and as was marked to do on her contract. I’m proud of the work my company and crew did on this roof. Once **** ***** had completed the chimney work she asked him to do, I asked for her to have him call me that way we could speak of the work he had done for her and how Garrison Roofing messed up any of her chimney work. **** did call me, but the conversation was short as he couldn’t answer any of my questions as to what he did on the roof that he doesn’t normally do as a chimney repair man and how the roofing company messed up anything. After this phone call, on July 27th I received a handwritten, non-itemized, very vague receipt from **** ***** in the mail.
On July 30th, mind you just two days after receiving the receipt in the mail, I received yet another phone, this time more threatening in demeanor, from her telling me I needed to pay her for this bill or she was turning me in and writing to the BBB. That same morning before 8:00 AM my wife personally delivered a check her for the amount of $1,200.00. However, later that same day, I contacted my lawyer and explained this situation to him. After hearing the situation, his legal advice to me was to put a stop payment on the check and to longer be in contact with this person as I did not break my signed contract and did exactly the work it stated. So that is what I did.
On Saturday, August 3 I received text messages from *** **** falsely accusing me of giving her a fake check because when she went to the bank, they would not let her do anything with it. I have the stop payment paperwork and everything to go along with this.
In 30 plus years of business I have never had to deal with someone like this as she has repeatedly called and texted me on my business and personal phone about how I needed to pay the bill for this, asking how to mail it to me and how I wanted to go about paying for this. If there were truly something, my crew or company did wrong or messed up on as the owner of Garrison Roofing, I would have no problem fixing it or making it right with the customer. However, after long thought and reviewing everything, I do not feel I am in the wrong and should need to cover this expense.
