I have been with this bank for 24 years. I use the bank for direct deposit of my SSI Disability check. For the past two years they have charging me overdraft fees, when there is no money in my account. These are for small bills like 1.99 to 7.99. I cannot afford these overdraft fees, I get one check each month and living off SSI. This month $198 is what they are charging me. I had these small monthly bills for a long time and they were paid for as soon as I get a deposit. Now they are overdrafting till it gets to a large amount from my SSI, no notification letter never written about the overdraft at all. I told my bank about this months before. Now I am writing to the credit union complaining

I have attached the response and explanation for *** *******. The charges are valid and incurred due to debit card purchases when funds were not available in the account. I have provided options to assist *** ******* in avoiding future fees and set up alerts for her to notify her of transactions on her account as they happen.  I hope this explains the process and will assist *** ******* in avoiding fees going forward.

The bank overcharged NSF fees on the account. Whenever I called to speak to them about it the person I spoke to was very rude and did not want to listen.

    Business response

    12/16/2022

In regards to *** ******** complaint, i researched the account history and this is the information I gathered.

On 12-6-2022 an ACH Debit for $300.18 was presented electronically from **** ** ******* to be deducted from *** ******** checking account at Beacon Community Credit Union. At the time her available balance was $224.08. Since there was not enough funds available to pay the item, the item was returned and a $34.00 NSF fee was charged. On 12-8-2022, the item was represented for payment. At that time *** ******** available balance was $190.09. Since there was not enough funds available to pay the item, the item was returned and a $34.00 NSF fee was changed. We do give our members a one time NSF fee refund per year for any reason, but Ms. Sutton had already received her NSF fee refund on 2-17-2022. Since there was not error on the credit union part, a fee refund was not warranted.

The following are captured from our rate and fee schedule that all members receive at account opening. I am unable to find any evidence the credit union acted in error when charging the NSF fees to *** ******
