Dave McKenzie is a fraud, a scammer, and a liar. Basically, he completely scammed us and left with all of our money we'd given him. in total, we gave him3,130 out of the 4,265 and he didn't even finish half of the job that he claimed he did. He finished 1 bedroom, kitchen ( no flooring under our fridge or stove ), and small laundry room. He didn't finish the shower in the master bedroom. He didn't even start on the living room, hallways, 2 other bedrooms, and install our tub in the other bathroom. He claimed he was "well over halfway" done with the house at this point and we needed to pay him. We paid him for the second installment and multiple other random payments that he kept adding into the bill that was not stated in our contract. After each time of being paid he refused to come back multiple days in a row and one point didn't show up for over 8 days straight. He had the audacity to complain about not being able to get into our house besides when me and my pregnant fiancée gets home from work, he constantly kept requesting that we allow him in our house alone while we weren't home and at one point told us to just keep a door or window unlocked. He was more than aware of the times he'd be allowed in the house well before the contract was signed. He blamed us for everything, even though we were lenient and forgiving. He made every excuse in the book not to come and finish the job. He would fight with us and say we were aggressive and used it as and excuse not to come out- we were never aggressive he was the one who threatened and harassed us. He left tools outside of our home, made a police report because they "supposedly" came up stolen, told my fiancée, my father in law and the police officer that he 100% doesn't believe that we had anything to do with it, then the very next day started harassing us and that's when we fired him. This guy is a thief, a liar, child abuser because he forced his 11 year old daughter to work for him on many jobs yelling and treating her like s**t. I'd warn anyone you know friends and family to stay away from him

Dave M******* is a fraud, a scammer, and a liar. Basically, he completely scammed us and left with all of our money we'd given him. In total, we gave him 3,130 out of the 4,265 and he didn't even finish half of the job that he claimed he did. He finished 1 bedroom, kitchen (no flooring under fridge or oven!), and small laundry room. He didn't even finish the shower in the master bedroom. He didn't even start on the living room, hallway, 2 other bedrooms, or install our tub in the other bathroom. He claimed he was "well over halfway" done with the house at this point and we needed to pay him. We paid him for the second installment and multiple other random payments that he added without being in the contract. After being paid, he didn't come back for multiple days and even recently 8 days in a row. He had the audacity to complain about not being able to get in the house besides when we got off work (which he was aware of the schedules before signing the contract). He blamed us for everything, even though we were lenient and forgiving. He made every excuse in the book not to come finish the job. He would fight with us and say we were aggressive and used it as an excuse to not come out-we did nothing. He left tools outside our home, made a police report, the next day blamed it on us. We live in a good neighborhood, our neighbors seen him pick up his tools at night so he could pretend they were missing. He threatened us with court unless we paid him $400 for his missing tools. I told him bring it on because it wouldn't sit well in court that we paid 3.1k without finishing half of the contract and breaking his own end of it. He also let us know that he voice records everything when he works on a job - in our home, WITHOUT consent, which is illegal. He also let us know that he only claims he makes 14k a year even though he makes over 100k. So do not give this drug addict, fake ass contractor, your business and I'd certainly warn your friends and family not to either.

    Business response

I think it’s hilarious how unprofessional this 19 year-old child is trying to make me sound and my company. Except see tends to leave out all the facts. I started this job and had a bad feeling about these people in the beginning and I should’ve went with my gut. ******, her boyfriend/23-year-old child literally stole over $400 worth of tools from me and my company. When I came out and realized what had happened, I immediately called the police to make a police report as anyone who would have had things stolen from them would have done. (*******) her 23-year-old child/man was the only person who knew where my things were and he was upset due to him not being involved in the contract between me ****** and her father.  ****** and her family story changed multiple times, and I offered to finish the job. Even after knowing they stole my tools. I only asked did they pay for them and fix this problem before we continue. They did not want to make any effort on their end, and I have multiple text messages to prove, they told me to get lost and that they were hiring a new contractor after I confronted them about stealing my tools

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.

    Regards,

    ****** *

    -----------------------

David makes multiple false accusations that we have stolen his tools, yet told police that we were not involved. He only decided the next day that we MUST be responsible. He was reminded of the job he was to do and finish, was paid over the amount he should have been paid, did not come out for a week while leaving such tools, and turns around and blames us for them being missing. It was from no negligence on our part, yet instead his own and he's not an adult enough to man up to it. We had nothing to do with the missing tools and apologized professionally to his face and over text multiple times. I can't help that someone stole the tools or he completely forgot he picked them up as neighbors eye witnessed. He is still a scam and needs to be serving time for stealing money from us and the emotional distress he has put us through. Nothing I said was nonfactual in any way and I have 2 other people to back me up that also witnessed his behavior, attitude, and non professionalism. He begged us and milked us for our money, and did not complete the job at hand. We don't want a criminal inside our home to finish a job that will be completed much faster than he ever could and likely be paying less money for. We will not have to deal with someone begging for money until they COMPLETELY FINISH the job they are working on. Nothing but a no good liar and money thief. Good riddance, Dave.

On October 25th I had Mackenzie construction Dave McKenzie Jr come out and look at my backyard to install a swimming pool. He charged me $75. For the visit. Originally he wanted 2300 I said that's way too much I said you got to go down more than that but I want to see reviews of who you did work for and everything before I hire you. So we agreed on a price of 1850. Pending the reviews be good and the qualities come back that he knows what he's doing. He sent me about four or five people out of all the people only one person had a review the job looked good she said he did really good work. Found out later on that one person was friend or family member all the people he did work for or claimed to do work for he did not. He did not level the pool he destroyed my pool liner he walked on it with his boots now there are boot imprints in the pool he did destroy my pool he cut two extra holes in my pool one for the skimmer and one for the return jet. When I saw that I was p****d there was already one from the original person I bought the pool from. This is a used pool but a very high brand used pool he told me he could install it correctly there would be no issues at the end of the day he destroyed my pool he did not level correctly I had a real company come out. Called clear water pools and spas they said my pool is out of level 5 in it looks terrible he destroyed my pool walls it's bulging in he did not know how to put the pool back on the track correctly. We had a contract that he was going to give me 5 years he lied about that would not come out I asked him multiple times to come out fix the problems we do it correctly he denied saying it's his fault. At the end of the day he is a scam artist and needs to be in prison he gave me false information about where he lives nothing was honest and he should not be doing business he scammed other people as well recently. He's not a contractor he's just a fraud out to steal from people. I'll continue and file reviews to stop him

We had Mckenzie Contruction install a 18' pool and a retaining wall about 7/5/22. Before he came in we had another contractor level and smooth a 30' x 40' spot. He did a great job. When dave came in, he dug holes for the retaining wall post and made a bumpy mess as the pic's show. He only installed 18 2x12 boards using 4 screws in each, which is 72 screws. the reciept shows we paid for 200 screws. I asked him for what was left and he would not produce them. The receipt shows how many screws he bought. The pool he installed which he called himself a professional pool installer is like walking on the moon it is so bumpy. I told him about this and he would not fix the problem, we will have to drain the pool and relevel and smooth. Very substandard workmanship.
