I walked inside the business with my 2 year old son and husband who are well over 21. I noticed there was a sign on the door that said "we ID must be 21 to purchase" okay that's fine. We're both 21. My 2 year old obviously isn't going to buy anything. Upon opening the door the young lady walks up to me super fast and says " you have to be 18 to enter" I proceeded to say " we are" and she looked down and pointed and said "he's not". I believe the young lady was honestly just going off her own beliefs of what she would do if she was a mother but I have every right to enter a clothing business with my son. I would like an explanation of the store policy that states that my 2 year old can not enter while being accompanied by his parents.

    Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2022/11/18) */ In regards to this complaint, first I would like to say we are not a "clothing business". We are an alternative store. Yes, we sell band tshirts and tie dye shirts BUT we also sell smoking accessories and adult novelties. The first and most important store policy is posted in large bright yellow vinyl lettering on our front door glass "18+ to enter, Please have valid ID ready". It also is posted even larger in the upper right hand corner of the door, "18+ to Enter". Directly beside our door on the very first glass window in large white vinyl lettering it reads "SMOKING ACCESSORIES" "ADULT NOVELTIES". These 4 large vinyl decals posted on front of our location should be the first idea to any customers trying to enter with a child, that that is not permitted! By law, we cannot have anyone under the age of 18 in our store around adult sex products! We immediately approached you when you entered with your 2 year old, because you obviously ignored the postings on our door. We were trying to ensure that our business adheres to the law and quickly gets any underage people out. This is not to show any ill-will towards anyone, but to FOLLOW THE LAW! I suggest doing your due diligence and researching the businesses you are trying to visit before entering and if you don't have time to do that prior to visiting any business, please ensure you read any postings on their doors and windows before entering. Our graphics on our door are very large compared to most stores you enter. We do this so that there's no confusion to the customer before entering. I would like to follow this up, with the economy the way it is today and so many small businesses having to close, it's very disheartening to have someone report your business to the BBB through no fault of their own. Before you contacted the BBB, you could have reached out to us directly, you could have asked a simple question while you were at our shop and we could have explained further. We have people try to enter our store every week with their children and they think it's okay because they're the parent and approving them to see such products. It is by no means okay with us and it certainly is not okay with Louisiana state lawmakers that any person under the age of 18 be around sex products! I feel an apology is wwarranted from you, but I realize I will never see that. Thank you for your time, The Retro Shop owner Consumer Response /* (3000, 11, 2022/11/22) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Well I traveled from out of state to Monroe and just so happened to stop there. I looked the store up on google before entering and it clearly says "clothing store" on google. So now I can go ahead and report this store as fraud. There is no way in **** a judge will see fit on your end. You get by with the government by calling your store a clothing store but yet you claim it as an adult store. You can't prohibit a child from going into a clothing store with their parent. Regardless of the state. If you'd like to see this in court I can contact my attorney. This response is absurd for a business owner to feel as though I could have talked about this with them. How could I? I really feel like my legal rights were violated and would like to see something done about it. Would you like to move forward in court because honestly I would hate for this to keep happened to people. You said people try to come in all the time with their kids. So this happens often enough. People have been winning left and right with businesses that violates the rights of the parent. Please respond promptly so that I can forward this and take action for the community.
