I recently visited your establishment to repay the balance of my **** loan using my **** credit card. During this interaction, I was informed that Massachusetts law prohibits the repayment of **** loans with a credit card. I am requesting clarification regarding this policy and the Massachusetts law referenced during our ************* a consumer, I want to ensure that I fully understand the legal and business rationale behind your payment restrictions. After reviewing applicable statutes and regulations, I could not identify any Massachusetts law prohibiting using credit cards for such transactions. Please cite the specific law or regulation supporting this claim. An explanation of whether this policy is a business decision or a legal mandate.I value your services and aim to resolve this matter amicably. If this policy is based on a misunderstanding or misrepresentation of state law, I kindly ask for its reconsideration to allow credit card payments for **** loan balances. If the pawnshop accepts credit cards for other transactions yet claims that using a credit card to pay off your loan is illegal in *************, this statement seems questionable. Using cards to repay **** loans may depend on the pawnshop's policies or the rules of the credit card issuer, but not necessarily on state law. Credit card companies often categorize payments for repaying loans (like **** loans) as cash advances. While this may carry higher fees or interest rates, it is not illegal unless explicitly restricted by the terms of the loan or credit card agreement. If the pawnshop misrepresented its policy as a legal requirement, this could be considered a deceptive practice, which is prohibited by Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 93A (Consumer Protection Law).

    Business response

While we sympathize with this customer, it is Company Policy NOT to accept credit cards as a form of payment for paying off debt owed. Suffolk Jewelers has complied with all rules regarding the "Fair Debt Collections Act" that prohibits unfair, deceptive and unreasonable debt collection practices. We simply have the customers best interest s in mind in helping them avoid further indebtness that may cause hardship for the customer.
