Before starting treatment the office manager at PWG took my insurance information. She advised that she wasnt sure if her group was accepted as in network with my insurance company. She was waiting to hear from my insurance carrier regarding a contract. In the meantime she never submitted a statement or invoice to be reviewed by my insurance company for patient visits. I was paud for all the visits upfront from July to September 2023. When I had paid $1,000 out of pocket through my HSA I called the office manager to get status of PWG being in network. She advised that she hasnt heard about a contract with my insurance carrier for over a year and decided to ask for payment up front from their patients with United healthcare coverage. She advised to call my insurance carrier to see if I could be covered by out of network benefits. I called United healthcare and they contacted the office manager for their federal tax identification number to see if they are in network. They are not. So i am very upset that I spent my entire HSA except for $100 for out of network services. United Healthcare advised that I have a out of network $3,000 deductible, so there is no way to recover the $1,000 I spent. If PWG was in network I would have to pay only 15% co-insurance payment as my deductible was already met. The office manager should have submitted documentation to my insurance company to be reviewed. An EOB would be then sent to advise PWG was not in network. I then could have chosen an in-network provider instead. The manager also advised United healthcare that I received regular statements, which is not correct as I only have a statement for the $250 initial visit. I feel I was taken advantage of because of lack of open communication with my health care provider. Also collecting full charges before being reviewed by an insurance carrier is not good business practice. Others need to be aware of this provider to protect themselves.
